Begins his second season as a major league pitching coach…hired on Oct 3, 2017 as the eighth pitching coach in franchise history, following Rick Williams (1998-2000), Bill Fischer (2000- 01), Jackie Brown (2002), Chris Bosio (2003), Chuck Hernandez (2004-05), Mike Butcher (2006) and Jim Hickey (2007-17) ... Despite using a club-record 31 pitchers and 17 starting pitchers in 2018, the Rays pitching staff ranked 2nd in the AL with a 3.74 ERA…following the debut of the opener on May 19, they ranked 2nd in the AL and 3rd in the majors with a 3.50 ERA, compared to 4.43 before then…the Rays traded four veteran pitchers in the week prior to the July 31 trade deadline, but from Aug 1 on posted a 3.39 ERA (4th in the majors) and .221 opp avg. (1st in the majors) ... Spent three seasons (2015-17) as the pitching coach for Triple-A Durham…in three seasons under Snyder, Bulls pitchers combined for a 3.61 ERA and twice established historic strikeout records…in 2016, they set an International League record with 1,287 SO…then in 2017, they shattered their own record with 1,421 SO-a new all-time mark for Minor League Baseball… the previous record was set by the Class-A San Jose Giants (1,383) in 2015 ... In his five seasons as a minor league pitching coach, he worked with 20 pitchers who would later graduate to the major leagues ... Has spent the entirety of his coaching career in the Rays system…his first assignment was as pitching coach for Short-A Hudson Valley in 2012…promoted to Class-A Bowling Green in 2013…served as a pitching coordinator in 2014.


Pitched professionally for 11 seasons, including parts of five years in the majors with the Royals (2003, 2005-06) and Red Sox (2006-08)…in 2007, his only full season in the majors, compiled a 3.81 ERA over 46 relief apps and was named to the Red Sox World Series roster…did not pitch in their 4-game sweep of Colorado ... He and Kevin Cash were teammates for the Red Sox in 2007-08, and Cash caught him for 6 games in 2007 ... Underwent a total of five surgeries during his playing career, including two that sidelined him for an entire season…missed 2001 due to Tommy John surgery, and 2004 due to a torn right labrum repair ... Selected by the Royals in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1999 June Draft out of the University of North Carolina, where he pitched three seasons…Barry Zito (Athletics) and Ben Sheets (Brewers) were taken with the Nos. 9 and 10 picks ... Selected as the top prospect in the Cape Cod League while playing for Chatham in 1998 ... Originally selected by the Rays in the 27th round of the 1996 June Draft out of Riverview High School in Sarasota, but did not sign…lettered in baseball, basketball, swimming and golf in high school.


His father, Donald, played basketball at Rice University from 1970-72 ... Switch-hit all the way through college ... He and his wife, Victoria, reside in Sarasota with their son, Luke (2).
