One of the most anticipated playoff pitching matchups in recent years lived up to its billing, as Noah Syndergaard and Madison Bumgarner traded zeros for the first seven innings at Citi Field. Syndergaard began his night with five no-hit frames before leaving after striking out 10 over seven scoreless. Bumgarner dominated through nine, scattering four hits and striking out six.
Conor Gillaspie���s game-winning three-run homer in the ninth off Jeurys Familia gave the Giants a 3-0 win, and Bumgarner his second shutout in two career NL Wild Card Game starts.
Bumgarner sent the Giants into the NL Division Series by extending his postseason scoreless-innings streak to 23, while San Francisco won its NL-record 11th consecutive playoff series.
