Path to the NLDS: San Francisco (88-74) beat Pittsburgh, 8-0, in the NL Wild Card Game; Washington (96-66) won the NL East by 17 games
The first two games couldn't get any closer -- one-run victories for the Giants, both -- but there was no solace in that for the Nationals, who ran away with the NL East in the regular season and fell behind two games to none with a tough 18-inning loss in Game 2.
The Nats bounced back, thanks largely to a terrific performance from starting pitcher Doug Fister in Game 3, but playoff veteran Ryan Vogelsong helped clinch it for San Francisco in Game 4. Buster Posey went 7-for-18 in the series for the Giants, while Washington's Anthony Rendon went 7-for-19. Bryce Harper hit three home runs in the losing effort.
