Over 2 seasons from 2015-2016, his slider was rated the best in the organization...in 2015 was a mid-season Carolina League All-Star, Texas League Pitcher of the Week once (7/21-7/27) and Southern League Pitcher of the League twice (8/4-8/10, 9/1-9/7)...in 2011 graduated from Horn Lake (MS) High School...played baseball at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, MS, where in 2013 he set a single-season school record with 96 strikeouts in 73.1 innings and finished his career as NWMCC's all-time leader in strikeouts (161), wins (16) and innings pitched (137.2).

2017

Spent most of the season at Louisville, where he led the International League in hit batters and wild pitches while ranking third in walks...made 1 start and 11 relief apps during 2 stints for the Reds...as 1 of 7 rookies on the Opening Day roster began the season in the Reds' bullpen and made his first 4 apps in relief (8ip, 4bb, 8k) before his only start, a 12-8 loss on 4/22 vs Cubs...retired all 18 batters (7k) in his last 3 relief apps prior to his 4/22 start...following that 4/22 start made a pair of relief apps before he was optioned to Louisville on 5/4 to make room on the roster for RHP Austin Brice...spent the rest of the season with the Bats...returned to the Reds in September, after Louisville's season ended...on 4/6 vs Phi, in his season debut threw scoreless fifth and sixth innings and earned the 7-4 win when the Reds snapped the 4-4 tie with a run in the sixth...was his first career victory after an 0-7 start, with all 7 losses coming in 2016...in the 7-1 win on 4/10 at Pit threw 3.0 perfect innings...combined with Michael Lorenzen (3ip) and Wandy Peralta (1ip) to throw 7.0 perfect innings...Reds relievers threw 7.0 hitless innings in a game for the first time in franchise history...in the 2-1 win on 9/16 vs Pit retired his only batter (Gregory Polanco 4-3) to strand an inherited baserunner and earn his only Major League save...retired the first batter in 9 of his 11 relief apps...stranded both inherited baserunners...converted his only save opportunity...the Reds went 5-7 in games in which he pitched...at Louisville from 6/3-6/25, became the first Bats pitcher to allow fewer than 2 earned runs in 5 consecutive starts since Greg Reynolds in 2013...entered the season rated the second-best prospect in the organization behind 3B Nick Senzel.

2016

Following the season was rated by MLB.com the third-best prospect in the organization and by Baseball America the 18th-best prospect in the International League...as 1 of 10 Reds pitchers to make his Major League debut, from 6/18-8/14 made all 10 of his starts for Cin...was 1 of 12 Reds players overall to make his Major League debut and 1 of a single-season club record 32 pitchers used in 2016...made his last appearance of the season in a start for Louisville on 8/29, when he left the game in the third inning with low back spasms...on 9/2 was promoted for his second stint with the Reds but didn't pitch before he went on the 15-day disabled list on 9/16 with the back injury...posted ERAs of 14.40 in the first inning (10ip, 16er) and 5.50 after the first frame (37.2ip, 23er)...allowed a first-inning run in 6 of his 10 starts...in the 11-inning, 5-4 loss on 6/18 at Hou became the first Reds pitcher with at least 9 strikeouts in his Major League debut since Johnny Cueto had 10 strikeouts without a walk on 4/3/08 vs Ari and the first to throw at least 7.0 innings in a debut since Travis Wood did it on 7/1/10 at Cubs...in that first career appearance, walked his first batter (George Springer) and the second batter homered (Marwin Gonzalez)...his first career strikeout victim was Carlos Correa...in the 5-4 walkoff loss on 8/8 at StL was in line for his first Major League victory after throwing 6.0 shutout innings, but with 2 outs and a runner on first base in the ninth inning the Cardinals scored 5 runs off Tony Cingrani and Ross Ohlendorf...became the second pitcher in Reds history to finish with as many as 7 losses without a win (Brian Reith, 0-7 in 2001)...from 4/18-4/24 was on Louisville's disabled list with a cut on his left index finger...attended 2016 Major League spring training camp as a non-roster invitee and in 4 exhibition starts and 1 relief appearance in Goodyear went 1-2, 2.87 (15.2ip, 12h, 6bb, 16k, 1hr)...was reassigned to minor league camp on 3/22.
