Carlos A. Asuaje…attended Nova Southeastern University…at Nova Southeastern earned 2011 Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2011 and named Co-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year honors in 2012…following the 2012 season, was named an All-Star in the Cape Cod League…during his junior campaign in 2013 at Nova Southeastern he struck out only 13 times in 178 at-bats…graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) High School …originally signed by Red Sox scout Willie Romay.

2016

Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A El Paso, earning 2016 Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year honors while also making his Major League debut for San Diego. Received his first career call-up on 9/21 from Triple-A El Paso and played in seven games, including six starts, all at second base. Made his Major League debut on 9/21 in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter and made his first Major League start the next day on 9/22 at second base. Hit safely in three of his seven games played, including multi-hit performances on 9/23 vs. SF and 9/29 vs. LAD...also hit .400 (4-for-10) with two doubles and two RBI with runners on base after his call-up. Named the 2016 Pacific Coast League Rookie of the Year after leading all Triple-A players with 172 hits and ranking tied for first with teammate Manuel Margot in runs scored (98) while hitting .321 (172-for-535) in 134 games. In nine postseason games for El Paso he hit .257 (9-for-35) with one double, one home run, eight RBI and three runs scored to help the Chihuahuas capture their first ever PCL title.
