In order to clear a spot on the 25-man roster for newly acquired reliever Steve Cishek and pave the way for Jaime Garcia's return to the rotation, the Cardinals optioned lefty Tim Cooney to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

Played college baseball at Wake Forest University...earned 2nd team All-ACC honors his sophomore season (2011), the first Demon Deacon since 2007 to win all-conference honors...three time ACC Pitcher of the Week...played high school baseball at Malvern Prep (Pa.) compiling a 25-6 record in his career...helped
the school to a PIAA State Championship in 2009 and a 40-3 record and National Ranking in 2008...resides in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Made 26 starts between Palm Beach (A) and Springfield (AA), compiling 154.1 innings, most among Cardinals minor leaguers...Led all Cardinals minor leaguers in innings pitched (154.1), strikeouts (148) and tied for the most wins with 10...Was selected to the Texas League All-Star North squad.
