Ramsey optioned among latest Tribe moves

The Indians made moves in big league camp on Friday, when they optioned James Ramsey to Triple-A Columbus and reassigned four players to their Minor League camp. Michael Choice, Jeremy Lucas, Anthony Recker and Eric Stamets were all reassigned to Minor League camp.

Full name JAMES BROGAN RAMSEY...Single...Graduated from Wesleyan (GA) High School in 2008 where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball, tennis and baseball...Led his Wesleyan High School baseball team to the 6-AA Championship in 2007...Graduated from Florida State University in 2012 with a degree in finance and was a three-time recipient of the Golden Torch Award for the highest GPA on the baseball team...Two-time All-American (2011-12), earned All-ACC Academic Baseball Team honors in 2010-11 and three-time member of the ACC academic Honor Roll... Named the 2012 ACC Player of the Year, finishing the season ranked in the top 10 in the league in 10 offensive categories, while leading in batting average (.378), runs, total bases, on-base/slugging pct...Finished his senior season as the American Baseball Coaches Association National Player of the Year and was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award...Played in the College World Series twice during his collegiate career (2010 & 2012)...Both parents are FSU alumni as his mom, Mary Beck, played tennis and his father, Craig, played baseball...Dad was captain of the 1980 College World Series team...Garnered team MVP honors while leading the Matsu Miners to the Alaska Baseball League championship in 2009... Split season between AA Springfield and AAA Columbus, his first extended look at the Triple-A level...Combined on the year he hit .295 (104-352) with 23 2B, 2 3B, 16 HR and 52 RBI in 95 games (.382/.509/.890)...He was a Texas League midseason All-Star and at the time of the 7/30 trade he was 6th in the Texas League in home runs (13) despite missing three weeks (5/17-6/9) with an abdominal injury...He entered the 2014 season ranked as the 6th-best prospect in the Cardinals organization according to MLB.com and started in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game for Team USA in Target Field...He was also named to the Texas League postseason All-Star team...Went 5-for-5 w/2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI on 8/14 vs. Lehigh Valley...Named 12th-best prospect in the Indians system entering 2015 (Baseball America).


Saw time at three levels of the organization, beginning at Palm Beach (High-A) for a second year before a promotion to Double-A Springfield for most of the season. Was promoted to Triple-A Memphis on 8/31 and played in one game...Had hits in 14 of his 18 games at Palm Beach, including a nine-game hitting streak 4/7-16 (.455, 15-33). Batted in the leadoff spot and played center field in all 18 games...Named Florida State League Player of the Week on 4/15 after going 11-23 (.478) with hits in all six games the week prior, and multi-hit games five times...Promoted to Springfield on 5/5 where he patroled CF for the majority of his games (76); also appeared in right field 12 times...Went 0-3 at Oklahoma City in his one game at Triple-A on 9/1...Played for Salt River in the Arizona Fall League; hit .246 in 22 games with seven doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.
