Braves land 3-time All-Star Phillips from Reds

After recently becoming more concerned about the lingering effects a Jan. 28 auto accident had on Sean Rodriguez's left shoulder, the Braves acted quickly to acquire Brandon Phillips from the Reds in exchange for two Minor League pitchers.

Graduated from Georgetown (TX) High School...from 2009-2011 played 3 seasons for the University of Texas, where in 58 career apps he went 6-1, 3.72...in his sophomore and junior seasons was second team Academic All-Big 12.

2016

MIssed the entire season recovering from a second "Tommy John" surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow...the day before spring training 2017 was traded from the Braves, along with RHP Carlos Portuondo, in exchange for 2B Brandon Phillips.

2015

Spent his fifth professional season with Atlanta after the Braves claimed him off waivers from the Miami Marlins on April 1, 2015. Assigned to the Major League roster as he was originally a Rule 5 claim by the Marlins (from the Chicago Cubs). Made his first career appearance on an Opening Day roster…Made his Major League debut on 4/12 with 1.2 scoreless frames vs. NYM…Made three appearances, 4/12-19, with Atlanta before violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Served an 80-game suspension from April 20 to July 20, 2015; included an assignment with Gwinnett (AAA) and Mississippi (AA)…Returned to action on 7/20.
