In an attempt to beef up their bench, the Mariners signed veteran infielder Danny Espinosa to a Major League deal on Monday and optioned rookie utility man Taylor Motter to Triple-A Tacoma.

Taylor Davis Motter…attended Palm Beach Gardens (FL) High School, where he also played basketball…played three seasons at Coastal Carolina University…helped the Chanticleers to three straight Big South Conference titles…named to First Team Big South Conference in 2010 and named a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger/ Collegiate Baseball in 2009…Motter estimates he broke more than 15 bones as a kid… he's an avid off-shore fisherman…his father, William, is a retired firefighter and his mother, Laurie, is a retired ultrastenographer (screens for breast cancer).
