Red Sox place two players on disabled list

The Red Sox made a series of roster moves prior to Friday night's home game against the Indians that included righty reliever Carson Smith (elbow soreness) being placed on the 15-day disabled list and left fielder/catcher Blake Swihart getting recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Noe Ramirez...First name is pronounced "no-EH". Signed by Jim Woodward (Red Sox). Went 8-4 with a 1.69 ERA (17 ER/90.2 IP) and 103 SO while holding opponents to a .179 AVG in 14 appearances (13 starts) as a junior at California State University-Fullerton in 2011...Earned 2nd-Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and named All-Big West Conference 1st Team. Played for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team in 2010, earning the silver medal at the V FISU World University Baseball Championships in Japan.

2015

Made his ML debut, appearing in 17 games-all in relief-in 3 stints with BOS...Spent the majority of his season with Triple-A Pawtucket, where he made 30 appearances (1 start). Retired 11 of 17 first batters faced with BOS...Allowed only 3 of 14 inherited runners to score...6 of his 12 runs allowed were unearned.
