Prospect Weaver placed on disabled list

Luke Weaver, who missed time in Spring Training due to back spasms, has been placed on the Triple-A disabled list due to lower back stiffness, which cropped up as he was running the bases in his start for Memphis last Thursday.

High School...played college baseball at Florida State University...became the Cardinals sixth 1st-round draft pick out of Florida State and second in three years (James Ramsey, 2012)...left the Seminoles with career marks of 16-6, 3.04 ERA and 244 strikeouts over 245.2 innings ...named 2014 first team All-ACC and third team Collegiate Baseball All-American...was Rawlings Gold Glove recipient for outstanding defense while at Florida State...2013 Tallahassee Regional Most Outstanding Player...2013 USA Baseball National Team member...ranked 11th in NCAA Division 1 in strikeouts (113) in 2013...resides in Tallahasee, Fla., with his wife, Olivia.

Was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training, but a left wrist injury attempting to field a ball during batting practice sidelined him until June, where he started the season in Springfield (AA)...Began the season in Springfield (AA) by going 6-3 with a 1.40 ERA in 12 starts before a promotion to Memphis (AAA) in early August, where he made one start, and was then purchased by St. Louis...Posted 7-3 record with a 1.30 ERA in 13 combined minor league starts (83.0 IP) between Springfield & Memphis...Made his Major League debut at CHI (8/13) after 38 career minor league starts over three professional seasons. Pitched 4.0 innings allowing two runs in a no-decision the Cardinals eventually won, 8-4...Struck out first two Major League batters faced in debut: Dexter Fowler (looking) and Kris Bryant (swinging)...Was the ninth different Cardinal to make his MLB debut in 2016 and the second Cardinals rookie to make a start.
