Named the Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Baseball State Player of the Year after going 12-1 with 3 saves, a 1.15 ERA, and 140 strikeouts over 91.2 innings as a senior at Edison (CA) High School in 2011...Earned 2011 Sunset League Pitcher of the Year honors, his 2nd straight year garnering the award...Selected as a 2011 Louisville Slugger High School All-American.

2015

Made 11 starts for the Red Sox in his ML debut, slotting into the rotation for the final 2 months of the season after beginning the year with 21 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket. Held opponents to 1 or no ER in 6 of his starts...Was just the 3rd Red Sox since 1914 to begin his career with 6 such starts within his first 11 career games, along with Eduardo Rodriguez (7 of first 11 in 2015) and Dave Ferriss (6 of first 11 in 1945). Allowed 7 ER each in 3 of his 11 starts...Gave up 11 total ER in his other 8 outings (1.94 ERA, 51.0 IP). Was recalled from Pawtucket on 8/4 to make his ML debut at Yankee Stadium...Allowed 3 runs in 5.0 IP and suffered the 13-3 loss...At 23 years and 14 days old, was the youngest Red Sox pitcher to debut at NYY as a starter since Billy Rohr on 4/14/67 (21 years, 287 days). Began the season with 20 starts for the Sea Dogs and named Eastern League Pitcher of the Year...Also selected by Baseball America as the best pitching prospect in the EL, and named a mid- and postseason Eastern League All-Star. Set a single-season franchise record with an Eastern League-leading 14 wins for the Sea Dogs...Also topped the EL in SO (126), SO rate (9.4 SO/9.0 IP), complete games (tied, 3), and shutouts (tied, 2) despite 8/1 promotion to Pawtucket...Ranked among EL leaders in opponent AVG (2nd, .201), ERA (3rd, 2.60), and WHIP (4th, 1.12)...Allowed only 6 HR in 121.0 Double-A IP.
