Josh Smith was originally signed by Reds scout Joe Katuska…graduated from Grandview Prep Academy in Margate, Fla…pitched collegiately at Lipscomb University where in 2010 was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference First Team…ranked fourth in the nation with 124 strikeouts that year…set a school record with 15 strikeouts in a game on March 26, 2010…tied that record a week later.

2016

Spent most of the season with Cincinnati where he went 3-3 with a 4.68 ERA in 32 games (two starts) over two stints with the Reds…allowed a .247 opponents batting average, including .219 (30-for-137) by right-handed hitters compared to .287 (27-for-94) by left-handers…held the opposition to a .217 batting average with the bases empty, .284 with runners on base…yielded a .245 batting average with runners in scoring position…allowed 5-of-25 (25.0%) inherited runners to score…first batters faced were 7-for-28 (.250) with two walks (.300 on-base percentage)…was 3-1 with a 4.88 ERA in his 30 relief appearances, 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in his two starts…had a 3.45 ERA and .171 opponents batting average in 16 games at Great American Ballpark, a 6.04 ERA and .317 opponents batting average in 16 games on the road…posted a 1.80 ERA over innings one through three, a 7.27 ERA from innings four through six, and a 3.04 ERA from the seventh inning on…opponents were successful in 8-of-10 (80.0%) stolen base attempts with him on the mound…went 2-for-11 (.182) with a double and four strikeouts as a hitter…tossed at least one inning in 27 of his 30 relief appearances, including two or more 14 times.
