Aaron Kurcz was originally signed by Cubs scout Steve McFarland…graduated from Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nev…attended the College of Southern Nevada and the United States Air Force Academy…was originally drafted by the Cubs and was traded to the Red Sox as part of the deal that brought Theo Epstein to Chicago.

2016

Returned to the mound with Double-A Portland after missing all of 2013 recovering from "Tommy John" surgery…fanned 54 batters in 42.0 innings for an average of 11.6 strikeout per nine innings, which was tops on the team…allowed five earned runs through his first three appearances before yielding just five earned in his final 31 games (1.15 ERA)…did not surrender an earned run in May or June, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 15 games across the two months…allowed right-handed batters to hit just .155 on the season, while lefties hit .283…pitched in 10 games for the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA.

2011

Named a Midseason Florida State League All-Star after striking out 9.95 batters per nine innings…placed among Single-A Daytona leaders in strikeouts (2nd, 91), appearances (4th, 32), starts (5th, 12), innings (5th, 82.1), and holds (t-3rd, 4)…held let-handed batters to a .194 average…went 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 49 strikeouts as a reliever…began the season as a starter and moved to the bullpen full time on June 23…allowed two runs over six outings (five starts) for a 0.75 ERA from April 24 to May 23…held opponents scoreless in 11 of 13 appearances in relief from June 28 to Aug. 18.

Spent most of the season in Short Season Single-A after making his pro debut in the Rookie-level Arizona League…appeared in one game with the AZL Cubs before being promoted to Boise June 27… converted all nine save opportunities, allowing just one run over 9.2 innings in save situations (0.93 ERA)…did not allow an earned run in 21 of 25 appearances…fanned all six batters faced Aug. 27 at Tri-City.
