Dustin Hunter Renfroe…is the son of Todd and Tammy...married to Courtney…graduated from Copiah Academy in Gallman, MS…set a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools record with 20 home runs and was named Player of the Year after his senior year in 2010…also played for the Colonels football, basketball and track teams…was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, but chose to attend Mississippi State…hit .345 with 16 home runs and 65 during his junior season in 2013 and led the Bulldogs to the College World Series finals, their first championship appearance in any sport…has a dog named Timber...his favorite restaurant in San Diego is Lou and Mickey's...was a big fan of Chipper Jones growing up...his favorite TV show is Game of Thrones and his favorite actor is Will Smith...roots for the Dallas Cowboys...originally signed by Padres scout Andrew Salvo.

2017

Made his first career Opening Day roster and spent the majority of his season with SD, appearing in 122 games and making 117 starts, all in right field... Set the Padres single-season rookie home run record with 26 long balls... His 26 home runs ranked second on the team and tied for second among all NL rookies...among NL rookie leaders, he also ranked fourth in doubles (25) and total bases (208), fifth in at-bats (445) and RBI (58), sixth in hits (103) and seventh in runs scored (51), multi-hit games (25) and games played (122)... His nine outfield assists led all NL rookies, tied for fourth among all NL players and tied for 11th in the majors... Recorded a career-high-tying six-game hitting streak from 4/21-26 (also, 9/27-10/2/16)... Homered in consecutive games four times during the season (5/14-15, 6/4-6, 6/14-16 and 9/27-28)... Recorded eight walks in seven games from 5/11-17…prior to the seven-game span, he had recorded just five walks through his first 45 MLB games... Hit a go-ahead grand slam on 5/29 vs. CHC in SD's 5-2 victory on Memorial Day...it was his second career grand slam, joining Melvin Nieves (1995) as the only two players in Padres history to have grand slams as a rookie (ELIAS)...his other grand slam came on 9/27/16 vs. LAD as part of his two-home run, seven-RBI game... On 9/20 vs. ARI, became the only rookie in the majors in 2017 and the first Padres rookie to ever hit three home runs in a game…he was the first Padre to ever hit three homers in a game at Petco Park and it was the seventh time a Padre has ever accomplished the feat (last: Phil Nevin, 10/6/01)... Nominated by the Padres for the 2017 Roberto Clemente Award, the most prominent award given to the player who best represents Major League Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions on and off the field.

2016

Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A El Paso and was named Most Valuable Player of the Pacific Coast League before making his Major League debut with the Padres...Got his first taste of the Majors, receiving his first career call-up on 9/21 and hit .371 (13-for-35) with three doubles, four homers and 14 RBI in 11 games before the end of the regular season...Earned National League Player of the Week honors during the final week of the season, hitting .409 (9-for-22) with an NL-best 13 RBI during that week...In just his sixth Major League game on 9/27 vs. the Dodgers at Petco Park, he hit two home runs and drove in seven runs total…per ELIAS, since 1920, only two other players have driven in as many as seven runs in a single game within their first 20 games in the Major Leagues, including J.R. Towles for Houston in 2007 (eight RBI in his sixth game) and Jarrett Parker for San Francisco (seven RBI in his 14th game)...The next day on 9/28 vs. Los Angeles he hit a home run and drove in four, becoming the first rookie to hit at least three home runs and 11 RBI over a two-game span since Fred Lynn did so in 1975, per ELIAS, the year Lynn became the first ever to win an MVP and Rookie of the Year award in the same season...His seven RBI game was just one shy of the Padres team record for most RBI in a single game, with eight by Ken Caminiti on 9/19/95 and eight by Nate Colbert on 8/1/72...His seven RBI were the most ever in a single game by a Padres rookie, breaking the previous record of six by Ryan Schimpf set earlier in the season on 8/12 at New York-NL...Made his Major League debut with a pinch-hit appearance on 9/21 vs. Arizona, drawing an international walk in his first career plate appearance...Received his first career start the next day on 9/22 vs. San Francisco, playing right field and going 2-for-4...Hit his first career home run on 9/24 vs. San Francisco off of Madison Bumgarner...Selected to the U.S. Roster in the 2016 Futures Game played at Petco Park, starting the game for the U.S. in right field, batting cleanup and going 0-for-2 with a walk... After spending the majority of the season with Triple-A El Paso where he helped the Chihuahuas win their first ever Pacific Coast League title, he was also named the 2016 PCL Most Valuable Player, hitting .306 (163-for-533) with 34 doubles, five triples, 30 home runs, 105 RBI and 95 runs scored in 133 games, ranking tied for the PCL lead in homers...Renfroe was also honored with PCL mid-season and post-season All-Star selections...In the first half of the season with El Paso he hit .335 (119-for-355) with 27 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 76 RBI and 68 runs scored in 84 games before hitting .247 (44-for-178) with seven doubles, one triple, nine homers, 29 RBI and 27 runs over his final 49 games in the second half for the Chihuahuas.
