Akeel Morris graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas (VI)…Played four years of baseball…Was a shortstop until the 11th grade, when he switched to the mound....Hobbies include water volleyball and long distance bike riding...Is one of 12 players from the Virgin Islands to have reached the majors...Others include Midre Cummings, Calvin Pickering, original Met Joe Christopher, Ellie Hendricks and Jerry Browne.


Was recalled from St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League on June 15...Optioned to Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League on June 18...Made his major league debut on June 17 at Toronto...Pitched 0.2 innings, allowed three hits, issued three walks and surrendered five earned runs...Became the 12th player from the Virgin Islands to reach the majors...Was named to the mid-season Florida State League All-Star team after going 0-1 with 13 saves and a 1.69 ERA (six earned runs/32.0 innings) in 24 games....Went 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA (eight earned runs/29.1 innings) in 23 games with the BMets...Combined to notch 81 strikeouts in 61.1 minor league innings.
