Colin Richard Moran...Is a 2010 graduate of Iona Prep School in New Rochelle, New York...Earned All-Archdiocese honors as a senior...Was a Journal News Westchester First-team All-Star and also a two-time team MVP...Played collegately at the University of North Carolina...Hit .345 with 13 homers and an NCAA-high 91 RBI as a junior for the Tar Heels, who lost to UCLA in the semifinals of the College World Series...Was an AllAmerican and a finalist for the 2013 Golden Spikes Award as a junior...Was also named the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Player-of-the-Year...His older brother, Brian, is a left-handed pitcher in the Rangers organization.
2017Began season with Fresno (Astros' AAA), where he was named a Pacific Coast League mid-season All-Star... Went 2-for-4 with a home run while starting at third base in the Triple-A All-Star Game...Was recalled by Houston on 7/18... Homered off Richard Bleier and tripled in season debut on 7/21 at Baltimore; his first triple and homer in the big leagues (became the second player in club history to record a homer and triple in his first game of the season, joining Ken Caminiti on 7/16/87 vs. Philadelphia)...Fouled a ball into his face on 7/22 at Baltimore and was placed on the 10 day disabled list the next day with facial fractures...Underwent surgery on 7/31...Played in a total of 12 rehab games with Quad Cities (three in the regular season and nine post-season games)...Went 14-for-33 (.326) with four doubles and six RBI in a total of 12 rehab games with Quad Cities...Was activated from the disabled list on 9/17 and made five appearances down the stretch.
2016Made his Major League debut with the Astros... made nine appearances, including six starts at third base...spent the entire Spring Training with the Astros as a non-roster invitee, and opened the season with Triple A Fresno...was selected to the Major League roster on May 17...was optioned back to Triple A on May 30, until his final recall on Sept. 16...he remained with the Major League club through the remainder of the season...went 2x4 with two RBI on May 27 at LAA, giving him his first Major League hits and RBI...snapped an 0x13 to begin his career with a single in the 5th inning...recorded his first career extra-base hit with a double on Oct. 2 at LAA, which was the final game of the season...in 32 games with the Grizzlies to start the season, Moran was hitting .288 (36x125) with seven doubles, three home runs and a club-leading 22 RBI before his MLB debut...after being optioned back to Triple A for his second stint with the club, played 85 games though the remainder of the Triple A season...batted .249 (83x334) with 11 doubles, seven homers and 47 RBI in that span.
2015Spent the entire year with Double A Corpus Christi, batting .306 (112x336) with 25 doubles, nine homers, 67 RBI and an .840 OPS (.381 OBP/.459 SLG) in 96 games...had the beginning of his season derailed after suffering a fractured jaw when an errant throw hit him in the face while sliding into second base on April 30 at Midland... missed a month's worth of games, returning on May 29, but had a torrid finish to the season...was named the MiLB.com July Texas League Player of the Month, as he hit .349 (37x106) with seven doubles, three homers, 22 RBI and a .945 OPS (.407 OBP/.538 SLG) in 27 July games...over his final 32 games spanning the months of August and September, batted .320 (39x122) with six homers, 19 RBI and a .940 OPS (.424 OBP/.516 SLG)...hit all nine of his homers in the second half of play.
2014Started the season with Class A Advanced Jupiter in what was his second professional season, earning Florida State League Midseason All-Star honors...earned his first invite to Major League Spring Training with the Marlins where he appeared in six games before being sent to minor league camp on March 17...entered the campaign ranked as a top 100 prospect in all of baseball: Baseball America No. 61, MLB.com No. 51 and Baseball Prospectus No. 74...appeared in 89 games with Jupiter, including 86 at third base and three at DH...led Jupiter in batting average (min. 200 AB), hitting at a .294 clip (106x361)...recorded a hit in 11 of his last 14 contests with Jupiter from July 17-31, batting .293 in those games... on July 31 was traded to Houston as part of the trade that sent RHP Jarred Cosart to Miami...was assigned to Double A Corpus Christi where he remained through the end of the season in what was his first action at the Double A level...in 28 games with the Hooks, owned a .303 batting average (34x112)...was named the Corpus Christi Player of the Month in August, batting .303 (33x109) with six doubles, two homers and 21 RBI...following the season, was named a top prospect by multiple outlets (MLB.com No. 5 Astros prospect; MLB.com No. 67 overall prospect; Baseball America No. 7 Astros prospect).
2013Assigned to Single-A Greensboro after being selected by Miami with the sixth overall selection in the First-Year Player Draft...Homered in first professional at-bat, a solo shot in first inning of eventual 4-3 win vs. Charleston on July 17...Had a hit in each of first three games with Grasshoppers...Average dipped to .232 after 26 games, but recorded a hit in 13 of final 16 games, including eight multi-hit games, to improve to .299 for season...Batted .407 (24x59) over final 16 games, with five doubles, two home runs and five RBI...Hit .262 (11x42) with runners in scoring position, with 18 RBI...Batted .321 (36x112) in 29 games in August, with seven doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI...Appeared in 22 games for Glendale Desert Dogs in Arizona Fall League; batted .230 (20x87) with three doubles and 10 RBI, drawing 12 walks and striking out 18 times.
