The Rangers recalled outfielder Jared Hoying from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday to fill the roster spot of catcher Bryan Holaday, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with a bruised left thumb.

He, his wife Ashley, son John Thomas and daughter Adalynn Mae reside in Dallas, TX during the offseason. • Earned All-Mountain West Conference honors as a sophomore at Texas Christian University in 2008 after hitting .311 (68-for-219) with 34 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, a home run and 41 RBIs in 62 games. Batted .300 (61-for-203) with 39 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 48 RBIs during his junior season at Texas Christian University in 2009 to garner All-Mountain West Conference honors. Hit .355 (99-for-279) with 72 runs scored, 24 doubles, a triple, 17 home runs and 53 RBIs in 68 games during his senior season at Texas Christian University in 2010 to earn All-Mountain West Conference honors...won the Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award, the award given annually to the top catcher in collegiate baseball.
