Alexander Gonzalez… he and his wife, the former Maria Alejandra Bejarano-Alva (4/13/17), had their first child, Natalia (10/18/17), over the offseason…named the 2013 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, finishing 2nd in the nation with 126 strikeouts…went 9-5 with a 1.83 ERA (23 ER/113.1 IP) and 126 strikeouts against 27 walks in 15 starts as a junior at Oral Roberts University…won the Summit League Pitcher of the Year award as a freshman and was named a 2011 NCBWA Freshman All-American… was previously an 11th-round pick by the Orioles in 2010 out of Boca Raton High School in Boca Raton, Fla. before opting to attend Oral Roberts…given the nickname "Chi Chi" by his great uncle…parents were born in Cuba…favorite player growing up was pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez…enjoys fishing and being by the water.


Missed the entire season with an ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right elbow and underwent season-ending 'Tommy John' ligament replacement surgery on 7/24…made 3 starts in spring training, going 0-1, 9.39 ERA, with last outing on 3/14 at ARI (2.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R-7 ER)…was originally shut down after that outing for 6 weeks when a partial tear was diagnosed, taking a rest and rehab approach, along with a platelet-rich plasma injection…spent the entire season on the 60-day disabled list before he was reinstated on 11/6…was not tendered a 2018 contract offer on 12/1, making him a free agent…re-signed with Texas to a minors deal on 12/4.
