Tyler James Sturdevant was originally signed by Indians scout Byron Ewing…pitched four seasons at New Mexico State University…redshirted in 2007 due to Tommy John surgery.
2016Made his Major League debut with Tampa Bay and was 0-1 with a 3.93 ERA in 16 relief appearances over three stints…surrendered just one home run in 18.1 innings…allowed a .273 opponents batting average, including .250 (5-for-20) by left-handed hitters compared to .283 (13-for-46) by right-handers… three of the five hits by lefties were for extra bases (two doubles, one home run)…had a .500 slugging percentage against lefties, .304 against righties…opponents hit .111 with two strikes…allowed 2-of-10 (20.0%) inherited runners to score…first batters faced hit .375…had a 2.45 ERA and .222 opponents batting average in nine games at home, a 6.14 ERA and .333 opponents average in seven contests on the road…posted a 2.08 ERA in five games on no days rest, a 4.50 ERA in his other 11 appearances… logged an 11.57 ERA in four interleague appearances compared to a 2.81 ERA in 12 games against American League competition…was selected from Triple-A Durham May 23 and made his ML debut May 24 at Miami when he retired the only two batters he faced…struck out Adeiny Hechavarria and got pinch hitter Chris Johnson to ground out…had his only decision the next day, allowing a run on three hits in 0.1 innings against the Marlins at Tropicana Field…surrendered just one run over his first five games through June 1 (2.25 ERA)…then had a 5.73 ERA over his final eight contests during his first stint…tossed a career-high 3.0 innings and struck out a career-high three batters June 16 against Seattle…allowed a career-high three runs on a career-high five hits while striking out a career-high tying three batters in 2.0 innings at Baltimore on June 25…that gave him a 4.80 ERA in 13 games and he was optioned to Durham following the game on the 25th…was recalled for his second stint July 4 and pitched in consecutive games on July 5 and 6 against Los Angeles (2.2 ip, 1 bb) before he was optioned July 15…returned for his final stint Aug. 25, struck out the only two batters he faced that day against Boston, and was optioned to Durham Aug. 26.
2011 Had a breakout season in 2011 and continued momentum into Arizona Fall League after the season...Went a combined 7-3 w/a 2.65 ERA in 42 games between A Kinston, AA Akron and AAA Columbus (8SV, 74.2IP, 67H, 22ER, 19BB, 82K)...Walked 2.3 per 9.0IP and fanned 9.9 per 9.0IP....Ended season with Columbus and pitched in 1 playoff game (0.2IP, 2H, 0R)...Combined on the year batters hit .238 (67-281, 5HR)...Began year in Kinston and was promoted to AA Akron on June 19...Had a 13.0IP scoreless streak from April 24-May 17...Was with Akron from June 19-Sept 1 and made spot appearance in Columbus on July 19...Made 1 other appearance in Columbus to finish regular season on Sept 3...Combined on the year RH batters hit .236 (39-165) off him...Posted 3.00ERA in the Arizona Fall League after the season (12.0IP, 11H, 4ER, 13K, .239AVG) as 7 of last 8 outings were scoreless (last 4G, 4.2IP, 2H, 0R, 7K). 2010 Went a combined 6-2 w/a 2.09 ERA in 31 games in relief between A Lake County and A Kinston (64.2IP, 45H, 15ER, 91K)...Fanned 12.7 batters per 9.0IP as batters had a combined average of .192 (45-234, 4HR) off him.
