The Cubs added two more arms to the bullpen on Monday with the arrival of right-hander Carl Edwards Jr., ranked third among Chicago's top prospects by MLB.com, and lefty Zac Rosscup.

Cubs place a pair on disabled list

The Cubs' push for the postseason will be more difficult after right fielder Jorge Soler and reliever Jason Motte were both placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday, Soler with a left oblique strain and Motte with a right shoulder strain.

Zac Rosscup has seen major league action in parts of the last three seasons after making his major league debut with the Cubs in 2013 ... originally selected by Tampa Bay in the 28th round of the 2009 draft, he was acquired by Chicago in January of 2011 as part of an eight-player deal with the Rays. In 61 career major league relief appearances, is 3-1 with seven holds and a 5.40 ERA (28 ER/46.2 IP) ... has struck out 57 in 46.2 innings, good for an average of 11.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Is 16-10 with a 2.64 ERA (77 ER/262.1 IP) in 139 career minor league games, including 28 starts ... has struck out 316 batters in 262.1 minor league innings, good for an average of 10.8 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Took part in the Cubs inaugural Rookie Development Program in January of 2013 and the 2015 and 2016 Cubs Caravan events. Attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore.

2015

Zac Rosscup went 2-1 with a 4.39 ERA (13 ER/26.2 IP) in 33 games across three stints with the Cubs … had six holds, struck out 29 batters and walked 13 … held lefties to a .158 average (6-for-38) while righties batted .308 (20-for-65). Allowed one or zero runs in 30 of his 33 outings. Was recalled for the first time, April 14, and went 1-0 with a two holds and a 0.93 ERA (1 ER/9.2 IP) in his first nine relief appearances. Pitched a career-high 2.0-scoreless frames, April 18 vs. San Diego, fanning two batters and allowing just one hit. Was placed on the 15-day disabled list, June 17, with left shoulder inflammation … made rehab outings with Rookie League Mesa, Double-A Tennessee and Iowa before being activated and optioned to Iowa, August 13. Was recalled for a second time, August 24, and appeared in just one game before being optioned to Iowa, August 27 … was recalled for the final time, September 7. Zac was a September call-up with Chicago, and in his first major league action he pitched to a 1.35 ERA (1 ER/6.2 IP) in 10 relief appearances … combined to go 2-2 with three saves and a 2.12 ERA (12 ER/51.0 IP) in 46 relief appearances between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa to begin the year ... was his second season pitching primarily out of the bullpen... Did not allow a run in nine of 10 relief appearances with the big league club … walked seven and struck out seven... Held big league left-handed hitters to a .100 batting average (1-for-10), while limiting righties to a .154 mark (2-for-13)... Joined the big league club, September 3… made his major league debut later that day vs. Miami, working 0.2-scoreless innings while striking out one... Between Double-A and Triple-A, struck out 83 batters in 51.0 innings, an average of 14.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, while limiting foes to a .195 batting average (36-for-185)... Allowed just two home runs in 51.0 minor league innings... Began the season with Tennessee, going 2-1 with three saves and a 2.49 ERA (12 ER/43.1 IP) in 37 outings to earn his first-ever promotion to Triple-A... Spent the first two months of the season on SIngle-A Daytona's disabled list, before returning in June and going 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA (12 ER/31.1 IP) and 45 strikeouts in 15 games (one start) between Double-A Tennessee, Single-A Peoria and Rookie League Mesa... Placed on Daytona's seven-day D.L., April 5-June 24, with left elbow tendinitis... Struck out five hitters in back-to-back relief appearances, June 30 and July 5 … finished the week with 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings... Promoted to Tennessee, July 7 … went 0-1 with a 4.84 ERA (12 ER/22.1 IP) in 11 games (one start) … struck out 29 hitters and walked 19... Struck out a season-best six hitters in 3.2 innings, July 27 at Jacksonville... Tossed a season-high 5.0 innings of relief, August 2 vs. Pensacola, allowing one run on two hits while fanning four... Held left-handed hitters to a .143 average (3-for-21) compared to a .193 mark (11-for-57) against righties at the Double-A level.

2011

In his first season with the Cubs organization, spent the entire campaign at Single-A Daytona, going 4-2 with a 2.54 ERA (14 ER/49.2 IP) with 50 strikeouts in 11 games (nine starts) during an injury-shortened season... Traded to the Cubs in January of 2011 with pitcher Matt Garza and outfielder Fernando Perez as part of an eight-player deal... Struck out a season-high nine hitters in 5.0 innings, June 16 at Brevard County... Did not allow a home run in his first 27.0 innings of work … finished the year surrendering four homers in 49.2 innings... Placed on Daytona's seven-day D.L., June 23-September 12, with a left shoulder sprain, ending his season.

2010

Appeared in 12 games (eight starts) with Single-A Hudson Valley and Tampa Bay's Gulf Coast Rookie League team, posting a 3-1 record with a 2.64 ERA (13 ER/44.1 IP) and 41 strikeouts... Began the campaign with the Gulf Coast Rays, logging a 1.04 ERA (1 ER/8.2 IP) in three games (one start)... Promoted to Hudson Valley, July 17, going 3-1 with a save and a 3.03 ERA (12 ER/35.2 IP) in nine games (seven starts)...
