Garton up, Beckham down as Rays shuffle deck

The Rays called up Ryan Garton from Triple-A Durham and sent down shortstop Tim Beckham prior to the club's game against the Marlins on Wednesday. To make room for Garton, Jake Goebbert was taken off the 40-man roster.

Jacob Dwayne Goebbert (pronounced "GO-burt")...Wife's name is Heather...Is a 2007 graduate of Hampshire (IL) High School, where he earned three varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball... Was an All-State baseball player as a junior...Attended Northwestern University, where he played baseball for three seasons (2007-2009)...Was a second-team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore...Broke a 31-year-old school season record by posting a Big Ten-leading 22 doubles in 2008... Spends time in the offseason working at his family's pumpkin patch and farm market, which has been in business for 67 years in Hampshire, IL (goebbertspumpkinpatch.com)...Participated in PirateFest this past December.
