Graduated from Hampshire HS (IL) where he earned three varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball...was an all-state baseball player as a junior...was a threetime all-conference and all-area baseball selection...named to the Allstate academic team and was a four-year Super Honor Roll student. ... Went on to play collegiately at Northwestern for three seasons (2007-09)...had his final year cut short because of injury after appearing in 30 games (.280, 4HR, 23RBI)... as a sophomore in 2008, was a second-team All-Big Ten selection...named the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient... broke a 31-year-old school season record by posting a Big Ten leading 22 doubles. ... Drafted by Houston in the 13th round of the June 2009 draft after his junior year at Northwestern...signed by Astros' scout Troy Hoerner. ...
