VerHagen deals with thoracic outlet syndrome

Nearly a month after sending Drew VerHagen to the Minors, the Tigers placed him on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition in which blood flow is somehow restricted to the arm.

Tigers shuffle relievers

The Tigers are waiting to decide whether they need to make a move to fill Jordan Zimmermann's spot in their rotation, but they made a move in their bullpen Sunday after their 9-4 win, optioning Drew VerHagen to Triple-A Toledo and calling up Buck Farmer to take his place.

Resides in Rockwall, TX during the offseason. Participated in the Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan and TigerFest. Attended Vanderbilt University with fellow Tigers prospect Will Clinard in 2012 and led the team with a 3.50 ERA in 27 games....attended Navarro College in 2011 and was a part of the school's Junior College World Series Championship team. Saw action in 11 games with Hyannis in the Cape Cod League in 2010, posting a 0-1 record and a 1.66 ERA (21.2IP/4ER). Attended Rockwall (TX) High School where he was first-team all-district in both his junior and senior seasons. Recommended/signed by Harold Zonder for the Tigers. 

2015

Appeared in 20 games in two stints with the Tigers in 2015 and posted a 2-0 record with a 2.05 ERA (26.1IP/6ER) and 13 strikeouts. Also saw time at Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo and compiled a 3-3 record with three saves, a 3.41 ERA (34.1IP/13ER) and 26 strikeouts over 20 appearances. Sidelined from April 9-June 2 with a L4 pars stress fracture. Recalled from Double-A Erie by the Tigers on July 3. Optioned to Triple-A Toledo on July 6. Pitched a season-long 3.0 scoreless innings on July 27 vs. Rochester, allowing two hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Recalled from Triple-A Toledo on August 19. Earned the first win of his major league career in the second game of the doubleheader on September 13 at Cleveland, throwing 2.0 hitless innings with two walks. Threw 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings over 11 games from August 22-September 15...allowed 10 hits, seven walks and struck out eight batters during the stretch. Allowed three runs in his last 18 appearances with the Tigers...posted a 2-0 record with a 1.11 ERA (24.1IP/3ER) and 13 strikeouts, while opponents batted .183 (15-for-82) against him during that span. Saw action in one game with the Tigers in 2014 as he spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Toledo...Assigned to Triple-A Toledo to begin the season...Compiled a 3-2 record, a 3.27 ERA (33.0IP/12er) and 22 strikeouts in six starts during May...Had his contract purchased by the Tigers on July 19 as the 26th man for the doubleheader versus Cleveland...Made his major league debut in the first game of the doubleheader versus Cleveland -- suffered the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four over 5.1 innings of work...Optioned to Toledo by the Tigers following the second game on July 19...Sidelined July 20-October 31 with a low back stress fracture.

2013

Completed his first full season of professional baseball in 2013, splitting time between Single A Lakeland and Double A Erie...Assigned to Single A Lakeland to begin the season...Sidelined April 24-May 2 with a right shoulder contusion...Compiled a 5-3 record, a 2.81 ERA (67.1IP/21ER) and 35 strikeouts in 12 games (11 starts) with Lakeland...Had his contract transferred to Double A Erie on June 20 -- fanned a season-high eight batters that same night versus New Britain...Named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 8 -- fired a complete game shutout on July 6 at Altoona, allowing just three hits while striking out six...Named the Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July after posting a 2-1 record and a 1.99 ERA (31.2IP/7ER) and 17 strikeouts in five starts during the month.
