Roy Emilio Alvarez was originally signed by Angels scout Ralph Reyes…attended Florida Atlantic University…was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as a junior in 2012 after going 5-0 with eight saves and a 0.76 ERA in 22 appearances…pitched for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League in 2010 and 2011…graduated from Cardinal Newman HS.
2015

Had four stints with the A's and posted a 9.90 ERA in 21 relief appearances…the ERA was the highest in the majors among pitchers with 20 or more innings pitched…using the same minimum, it was third highest in Oakland history and was the highest since Rick Langford had a 12.15 ERA in 20.0 innings in 1983…struck out 23 batters in 20.0 innings (10.35 per nine innings) but also issued 13 walks (5.85 per nine innings) and surrendered seven home runs (3.15 per nine innings)…had five wild pitches…allowed a .318 opponents batting average, including .200 (9-for-45) by right-handed hitters compared to .450 (18-for-40) against left-handers…issued 11 of his 13 walks to righties…yielded 27 hits, 13 of which were for extra bases for a .635 slugging percentage…righties slugged .444, lefties .850…opponents had a .263 batting average with the bases empty compared to .362 with runners on base…yielded a .375 average with runners in scoring position…allowed 7-of-12 (58.3%) inherited runners to score…first batters faced were 8-for-21 (.381) with two doubles and two home runs (.762 slugging percentage)… five of the seven home runs he allowed came with two outs…had a 6.30 ERA in 11 appearances in Oakland, 13.50 in 10 games on the road…tossed at least one inning in 17 of his 21 outings and allowed at least one run 10 times.
