Bucs' Rivero changes surname to Vazquez

Felipe Rivero legally changed his name to Felipe Vazquez on March 26, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported, and the Pirates reflected that change before Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs. His jersey now reads "Vazquez," not Rivero.

The Pirates and closer Felipe Rivero completed a four-year deal with club options for 2022-23, the club announced on Thursday.

Spent his first full season with the Pirates...His 21 saves were the second-highest total by a LHP in club history (24 by Mike Gonzalez in 2006)...Held left-handed batters to a .082 (7- for-85) average and just one extra-base; a double by Cincinnati's Scott Schebler on 4/12...Posted five multi-inning saves - the most by a Pirates pitcher since Julian Tavarez in 2003 (seven)...Was tied for sixth in the N.L. in appearances; two behind his careerhigh 75 games in 2016...Was charged with an earned run in 11 of his 73 appearances...Went 21-for-23 in save opportunities...
