Attended Bonita High School in Southern California, where he hit .394 (28x71) with 10 doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI and 22 walks with a .545 OBP his senior season...led Bonita to a district championship that season and finished first in his district in OBP and stolen bases (18)...drafted by Houston in the first round of the June 2009 draft...signed by Astros scouts Doug Deutsch and Bobby Heck ... Became the eighth shortstop taken in the first round (including supplemental picks) by the Houston franchise...was the highest shortstop taken by Houston since the club selected Tom Nevers with the 21st overall pick in 1990 ...
