Brewers place several players on disabled list

The Brewers placed three players on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, chief among them lefty reliever Sean Nolin.

Left-hander Sean Nolin is in the midst of a seven-day shutdown due to elbow soreness and will not be an option for the Brewers' Opening Day roster, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Sean Patrick Nolin…attended San Jacinto College North in Houston, Texas.

Was one of four players acquired from Toronto in the Josh Donaldson trade and spent half of the season on the disabled list as he had one stint on the DL with Oakland and two with Triple-A Nashville…made his A's debut during a September call-up and went 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA and .302 opponents batting average in six starts…his opponents batting average included a .286 (22-for-77) mark against right-handed hitters compared to .333 (13-for-39) against left-handers…now has a .372 (16-for-43) career average against lefties…allowed a .154 average with runners in scoring position and two outs…yielded one run in the first inning in his six starts (1.50 ERA) after yielding one first inning run in 12 minor league starts (0.75 ERA)…did not pitch during the spring and began the season on the 15-day DL as he continued to recover from off-season bilateral core surgery…was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Nashville May 15…tossed a career-high 6.0 innings in his first start with the A's but took the loss in a 3-2 decision against Seattle Sept. 6…was credited with his first Major League win in his second start, a 5-3 A's win at Texas Sept. 12…allowed just one run in 5.2 innings and struck out a career-high five…was 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA over his first two starts…then went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA over his final four starts.

Spent most of the season at Triple-A Buffalo where he went 4-6 with a 3.50 ERA in 17 starting assignments…earned a September call-up to Toronto and made one appearance with the Blue Jays on Sept. 22 against Seattle (1.0 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 hr)…had his season interrupted by two stints on the disabled listwith a strained left groin…was out from May 14 to June 5 and June 18 to July 18…made three rehabstarts with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays and Single-A Dunedin during the second stint, combining for a 0-1 record and a 2.79 ERA…was 4-7 with a 3.43 ERA in 20 minor league starts overall…allowedsix home runs in 97.0 innings, an average of 0.56 per nine innings…allowed a .216 opponents battingaverage, including .184 (16-for-87) against left-handed hitters compared to .227 (63-for-278) againstright-handers…yielded just one extra base hit to a lefty, a double…lefties slugged .195 compared to .345 by righties…opponents hit .156 with a .206 on-base percentage when leading off an inning…yielded a .202 batting average with runners in scoring position, including .175 with RISP and two outs…however, opponents were 4-for-10 (.400) with a walk with the bases loaded…compiled a 1.35 ERA over the first two innings of a game compared to 4.73 from the third inning on…with Buffalo, was 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in nine starts at home, 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA in eight starts on the road…his teams were 9-11 (.450) in his starting assignments…tossed at least six innings in seven of his 20 starts, allowed two runs orfewer 12 times and walked two batters or fewer 15 times…pitched for Mesa in the Arizona Fall leaguefollowing the season and went 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA and .230 opponents batting average in seven starts…was named the A's seventh best prospect by Baseball America following the trade.
