Brett Wallace was a star hitter in college under Pat Murphy and the Padres hope he can display that swing again. Wallace on Friday was called up from Triple-A El Paso to be a left-handed bat off the Padres bench.

Cory Mitchell Mazzoni graduated from Seneca (PA) Valley High School and attended North Carolina State University, where he played three years on the baseball team and was a sports management major...Enjoys hunting and fishing.

Underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee on August 2... Made 13 appearances, 12 starts for Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League…His final start came on July 3... Racked up 74 strikeouts in 66.0 innings of work... Struck out a season-high 11 batters in 6.2 innings on June 6 vs. Trenton.
