Lamb optioned to Triple-A; Waldrop recalled

After he was unable to develop a pattern of consistency in their rotation, the Reds decided Sunday to option starting pitcher John Lamb to Triple-A Louisville. Who exactly takes Lamb's place in the rotation for his next start has not been revealed.

John Michael Lamb Bio Info

Was born in La Palma, CA and resides in Laguna Hills, CA...his grandfather, John Ramsey, was the public address announcer at Dodger Stadium from 1958-84 and also worked in that capacity for the Rams, Raiders, Trojans, Angels, Kings and Lakers until his death in 1990...in 2008 graduated from Laguna Hills High School, where as a junior he went 9-2, 1.48 while hitting .396 in leading his team to the conference championship... that season was the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Year...missed his senior season following a car accident.

2015

Spent most of the season in Class AAA, where in 20 starts at Omaha and Louisville he combined to go 10-2, 2.67...was a Pacific Coast League All-Star...on 7/26 was acquired from the Royals, along with LHP Brandon Finnegan and LHP Cody Reed, in exchange for RHP Johnny Cueto...was 1 of 9 rookie pitchers who combined for 110 starts for the Reds, both single-season modern club records...the Reds' season-ending streak of 64 consecutive starts by rookies, beginning 7/29, is a modern Major League record...was 1 of 5 Reds pitchers to start in his Major League debut (Raisel Iglesias, Michael Lorenzen, Jon Moscot, Josh Smith)...after the 7/26 trade was sent to Louisville, where he made 3 starts before he was promoted to take Michael Lorenzen's spot in Cin's rotation...in his Major League debut on 8/14 at LAD became the eighth rookie pitcher to start a game for the Reds this season, tying the modern club record (1901, 1902, 1907, 1908), and made the first 2 plate apps of his professional career... his first strikeout victim was Adrian Gonzalez...in the 11-0 win on 9/10 vs StL earned his first career victory and produced his first career RBI, a run-scoring fielder's choice of Jaime Garcia that gave the Reds a 1-0 lead...was the losing pitcher on 9/26 in the 10-2 Mets win that clinched NYM's National League East title...on 10/1 vs Cubs doubled off Jason Hammel for his first professional hit...on 12/7 had surgery to repair a disc injury in his lower back.

John spent the entire season at Omaha (AAA), going 8-10 with a 3.97 ERA in 26 starts (27 appearances)...Ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts (131), eighth in ERA and tied for eighth in innings (138.1)...Struggled early, going 0-5 with a 5.13 ERA in his first five starts…went 8-5 with a 3.70 ERA (46 ER in 112.0 IP) over his final 22 outings of the regular season...Held opponents to a .218 average (31-for-142) with runners in scoring position…also held hitters to a .224 average when leading off an inning...Made two postseason starts, going 0-1 with a 10.50 ERA, suffering a Game 2 loss to Reno (4-2) in the PCL Championship Series.

2013

John spent a majority of the season pitching at Wilmington (A-Advanced), before being promoted to Omaha (AAA) in August ... struggled with consistency, but fanned 86 in 108.2 innings combined between the two levels. Recorded first win at the Triple-A level on September 2, allowing four runs on four hits over 5.0 innings in an 8-4 victory over Round Rock. Posted consecutive scoreless outings vs. Lynchburg (May 23) and Carolina (May 28), working 7.0 innings in both ... earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors.

2012 John spent a majority of 2012 continuing his rehab from 2011 Tommy John surgery...Made six starts on rehab assignments with Surprise (R) and Idaho Falls (R)...struggled with consistency, but struck out 14 in 13.0 innings. 2011 Made 8 starts for Northwest Arkansas in 2011 before undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. 2010 Jumped three levels, establishing himself as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and was named the Paul Splittorff Award winner, given to the organization's top pitcher...Began the season with Burlington (A), making 8 starts before a promotion to High-A Wilmington...he posted a miniscule 1.45 ERA in 13 starts with the Blue Rocks before wrapping up his campaign with 7 starts for NW Arkansas (AA)...also posted a 3.12 ERA in 2 playoff starts as the Naturals won the Texas League title...Adjusted quickly to the Texas League after posting a 0-1 record and a 7.94 ERA over his first 4 starts, was 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 17 strikeouts over his fi nal 3 starts, covering 16.0 innings...tossed 6.1 no-hit innings on August 26 at Springfield...Rated as the third-best prospect in the Carolina League...also rated as the Royals prospect with the "Best Control" entering both 2010 and 2011...also listed as having the "Best Changeup" in the system entering 2011...Ranked by MLB.com as the 34th-best prospect and by ESPN.com as the 41st-best in baseball entering 2011.
