Kyle Jordan Hudson...played 3 seasons each on baseball and football teams at the University of Illinois at Champaign...has the 2nd-highest career batting average (.376), the 3rd most steals (66), and the 4th-highest average in Big 10 play (.361) in school history...stole 40 bases in 2008, 2nd-most ever in a season at Illinois...also played wide receiver, leading the Illini in receptions in both 2005 (31) and 2006 (30)...lettered in baseball and football at Mattoon (IL) High School (graduated '05). 2011 Combined for a .296 (125-493) average with 23 RBI and 41 stolen bases in 119 games with Frederick (High-A), Bowie (AA), and Norfolk (AAA)...had a .375 on-base percentage, highest in the Baltimore minor league system, and was 2nd in stolen bases...had just one error in 270 total chances with the 3 clubs...opened the year at Frederick, starting 19 games in center and 4 in right as the Keys leadoff hitter...hit safely in 17 of 23 games with a .357 (10-28) average in his final 8 contests...was promoted to Bowie on May 4 and batted .268 (11-41) in 13 games before assignment to Norfolk on May 20...hit just .188 (13-69) in 24 games with the Tides and was returned to Bowie on June 27...had a .340 (17-50) average in that 15-game stint with the Baysox, .381 (16-42) in final 12 contests...overall, started 24 games in left and 2 in center at Bowie...had season highs of 4 hits on July 10 at Altoona and 3 RBI on July 14 against Richmond...was promoted to Norfolk on July 17 and batted .339 (60-177) in 44 games the rest of the season... his .297 overall average was the highest of any Tides player in 2011...went 15-for-32 (.469) in 1st 7 games back at AAA with 6 multi-hit contests...overall, started 39 games in left and 26 in center with Norfolk...had 29 games in leadoff spot in batting order... had a season high 9-game hitting streak, July 26-August 4...hit .322 (57-177) vs. right-handers with the Tides.
