Grew up in Cypress, TX and graduated from Cy-Fair High School in a senior, was one of three recipients of the Josh Beckett Award for Houston Area Player of the Year honors...was a Rawlings First Team All-American in 2008 and a member of the USA Baseball Junior National Team in 2007...also played football as a freshman and sophomore. Signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Texas, but ultimately signed with the Pirates after getting selected by the club in the sixth round of the June 2008 draft...was ranked by Baseball America as the 49th best prospect in the country entering the draft ... was signed by Pirates scout Mike Leuzinger. Was one of three players the Astros received from Pittsburgh in exchange for LHP Wandy Rodriguez on July 24, 2012 ... added to the Astros 40-man roster on Nov. 20, currently signed to a one year contract that runs through 2014.

The 24-year-old, Cypress, TX native made his Major League debut with the Astros this season, hitting .268 with a .332 OBP in 63 games...heading into the season was ranked by as the Astros No. 7 prospect...saw time at all three outfield spots (45g in LF, 29g in CF, 2g in RF)...struggled in his first stint with the club (.198 AVG) but hit .322 with an .816 OPS over his final 35 games after getting recalled back to Houston in July...owned the club's longest hitting streak of the season after hitting in 14 straight games from Aug. 13-27...marked the second-longest hitting streak by an AL rookie this season, behind Jose Iglesias' 18-gamer...was the longest hitting streak by an Astros rookie since Chris Johnson hit in 14 straight in 2010... only three other rookies in Astros history have had 14-game hitting streaks or longer: Terry Puhl (17 games in 1977), Sonny Jackson (15 games in 1966) and Cesar Cedeno (14 games in 1970)....had three hitting streaks of eight or more games this season...reached base safely in 52 of his 63 games (83%)...hit .329 vs. lefties, which ranked sixth all-time in Astros history for a single season by a rookie (min. 50 at-bats)...when putting the first pitch of an at-bat into play, hit .472 (17x36) ... when swinging at the first pitch of an at-bat, the ultimate outcome of his at-bats resulted in a .370 average (27x73) with an .880 OPS...did not make the club out of Spring Training and started the year at Triple A Oklahoma City...was recalled to Houston on April 24 after Justin Maxwell was placed on the DL ... optioned to Triple A on May 27...spent two months at OKC before getting recalled to the Majors on July 26...suffered a strained right oblique on Sept. 3 vs. MIN and missed the final 24 games of the season but was not placed on the DL...made his Major League debut on April 24 vs. SEA and went 2x5...recorded his first ML hit in his second plate appearance...became just the second player in franchise history to hit two doubles in their ML debut (also James Mouton on April 4, 1994 vs. MON) ... the last Major Leaguer to collect two doubles in their MLB debut was OAK's Carlos Gonzalez on May 30, 2008 at TEX ... from July 28 thru the end of the season, ranked second among MLB rookies with a .322 batting average (min. 130 at-bats)...hit his first Major League homer on July 31 at BAL ... was the 71st HR to land on Eutaw St. in Oriole Park history and the 43rd by an opposing player...Lance Berkman was the last Astro to hit Eutaw with a HR (June 18, 2008)...on Aug. 14 at OAK, made a leaping catch at the LF wall to rob Chris Young of what would have been a walk-off homer in the 10th inning ... in 70 games at Triple A OKC, hit .281 (71x253) with 42 runs, 11 doubles, two homers, 20 RBI and a .396 on-base percentage...hit.390 (32x82) in July.
