With Hamilton down, Reds reinstate Winker

The Reds reinstated Jesse Winker from the 10-day disabled list before Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, and right-handed pitcher Keury Mella was added to the roster from Double-A Pensacola and as his Pensacola. The Reds also added his Pensacola teammate, righty Deck McGuire to the roster. Righty Barrett Astin was designated for assignment to make room for McGuire on the 40-man roster.

DeSclafani sharp in 20-pitch simulated game

Time is running out on the 2017 season before he's had a chance to get into a game, but Reds pitcher Anthony DeSclafani is continuing to keep make progress toward returning. DeSclafani threw a 20-pitch simulated game while facing teammates Jesse Winker and Zach Vincej at Citi Field on Friday.

2016

Began the season on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, suffered in his final spring training start...made consecutive rehab apps on 4/23 for Pensacola and 4/29 for Dayton before he felt soreness in the oblique...didn't make another rehab start until 5/25...on 6/10 was reinstated from the 15-day DL and that night vs the A's made his season debut in the Reds' 61st game...began the season 6-0, 2.94 through 11 starts...became the first Reds pitcher to produce at least 6 wins without a loss over his first 9 starts since Paul Wilson went 6-0 in his first 9 starts in 2004...through 17 starts went 8-3, 2.93...in his last 3 starts went 1-2, 5.63 to raise his overall ERA to 3.28...in 14 of his 20 apps produced quality starts, including a season-high 6 straight QS from 6/21-7/20 (5-0, 2.59)...coming out of the All-Star break made 11 starts (5-3, 3.30) before he skipped a turn on 9/12...returned to the rotation on 9/17 and didn't miss any of his last 3 starts (1-2, 5.63)...in the 13-0 win on 8/27 at Ari threw his first career complete game.
