Graduated from Pleasure Ridge Park (Ky.) High School, the same high school as Major League pitcher Scott Downs... posted career .449 average and 33 home runs, and as a pitcher had a 38-3 record, 1.03 ERA, 495 strikeouts in over 300.0 innings pitched...was named Kentucky's Mr. Baseball as a senior and was the MVP of the KHSAA state tournament...played college baseball at the University of Arkansas and set school single-season records with 102 hits and a .429 batting average in 2010...played for the Cotuit Kettleers in the 2009 Cape Cod league where he was selected to the West All-Star Team and earned game MVP honors. 2012 Combined to his .254 in 108 games between Triple-A Memphis and Double-A Jacksonville, amassing 41 runs scored, 29 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 43 RBI...Began season at Triple-A Memphis in St Louis Cardinals organization, batting .254 with 27 runs scored, 23 doubles, nine home runs and 30 RBI in 84 games prior to being traded to Miami on July 31...Strung together season-best eight-game hitting streak from Apil 18-28, with five doubles, one home run and two RBI...Over seven-game stretch from June 29-July 5, raised season average from .247 to .262.
