Called to the big leagues for the first time in early July, Mendez was one of the Rangers' most effective relievers over the final 3 months...entering the year, had never pitched above Double-A.


Went 2-0 with 2 saves and a 1.82 ERA (5 ER/24.2 IP) in 16 relief appearances with 24 strikeouts against 11 walks in an injury-shortened season…was placed on the Frisco disabled list on May 30 after undergoing surgery to treat a stress fracture in his right elbow and missed the rest of the season…the surgery was performed on May 31 by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister at the Medical Center of Arlington … opponents hit .146 (12-82), though 8 of 12 hits were XBH (7 2B, HR)…right-handed batters hit .145 (8-55) while lefties batted .148 (4-27)…strikeouts in 14 of 16 appearances, multiple K's in 9…tossed at least 2.0 innings in 7 games…did not concede an earned run over his first 9 appearances of the season (15.1 IP), with 14 strikeouts, 5 walks, and 5 hits during the streak…streak ended when he gave up his only home run of the season to Domingo Santana, Santana's 3rd of the game, on May 10 at Corpus Christi… allowed runs in 3 of 16 games, including season-high 4 R/ER in 1.0 inning on May 22 at Springfield…was 2-0 with one save, a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/12.1 IP), and .079 (3-38) opponents' average in 8 home appearances … was rated by Baseball America as the top right-handed reliever and the no. 13 prospect in the Texas system entering the season.

2012 Split the season between Myrtle Beach (High-A), the AZL Rangers, and Frisco (AA)...combined to go 6-7 with a 4.43 ERA (45 ER/91.1 IP), 2 saves, and 87 strikeouts over 26 games/15 starts...was 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA (4 ER/24.1 IP) as a reliever and 3-7 with a 5.51 ERA (41 ER/67.0 IP) as a starter...opposing batters hit .245 (84-343), .226 (52-230) by right-handers and .283 (32- 113) by lefties...opposition batted .314 (27-86) with RISP. FRISCO: Finished the campaign in the Frisco bullpen after promotion on Aug. 13...held Texas League batters to a .174 average (8-46)...4 of 8 hits allowed were extra-base hits by RHH (2 2B, 2 HR)...leadoff batters were 1-for-12...allowed a run in 3 of 5 outings...collected victories in each of his final 2 regular season appearances, including 5 strikeouts over 3.0 innings in last outing on Sept. 1 vs. Midland...was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/2.0 IP) and 2 strikeouts over 2 appearances during the Texas League playoffs MYRTLE BEACH: Opened campaign in Pelicans rotation, logging a quality start in 4 of his first 6 starts...did not complete 6.0 innings in any of his next 4 starts, but posted a 1.89 ERA (4 ER/19.0 IP)...permitted season highs in hits (10) and runs (8) on June 3 at Salem...on disabled list June 4-July 19 with elbow strain... completed a rehab assignment from July 5-19 with AZL Rangers, going 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (3 ER/9.0 IP) and 7 strikeouts against one walk over 3 games/starts...returned to Pelicans rotation on July 23 at Salem and yielded 7 runs on 9 hits over 4.0 IP...shifted to the bullpen beginning July 28 and went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP), one save, and 15 strikeouts against 2 walks over 6 appearances...held opponents to a .132 average (5-38) during that stretch...matched season high with 9 strikeouts over 6.0 shutout innings in first relief outing on July 28 vs. Winston-Salem. 2011 In his first full season in the Texas organization, spent the year with Hickory (A) in the South Atlantic League, going 9-1, 3.31 (43 ER/117.0 IP) in 26 games/20 starts...opposing batters hit .259 (117-452), .246 (70-284) by right-handers and .280 (47-168) by lefties...opponents had 7 HR, 45 walks and 130 strikeouts... ranked among SAL leaders in winning pct.
