Dominican native was signed by the Astros as an 18-year-old, non-drafted free agent on Dec. 6, 2007...signed by Astros scouts Felix Francisco and Andres Lopez. Was added to the Astros 40-man roster for the first time in his career on Nov. 20, 2012... the 2014 season will be his seventh with the organization. Is signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2014 season.

2013

Rookie reliever spent over three months in the Major Leagues from April 22-Aug. 6, the first Major League action of his career...went to Major League Spring Training for the first time in his career and made two appearances (2ER/2.2IP) before being reassigned to minor league camp on March 12...broke camp as a piggy-back starter with Triple A Oklahoma City and made three appearances, going 1-1 with a 9.35 ERA (9ER/8.2IP)...fared much better in his relief appearances, posting a 1.50 ERA (1ER/6IP) ... recalled by Houston on April 22 and would go on to post a 2-2 record and a 4.12 ERA (20ER/43.2IP) across 28 appearances for the Astros before being optioned back to OKC on Aug. 6...worked in long relief for Houston thru his first 11 appearances with 10 of those 11 being 2.0+ innings (thru June 6) ... made his MLB debut on April 22 vs. Seattle and tossed 3.2 scoreless innings ... had great success as a long reliever (1-0, 2.67 ERA, 8ER/27IP) and eventually worked his way into setup situations...from June 14 to the date of his option made 17 appearances with a 6.48 ERA (12ER/16.2IP) with only three of those 17 apps. being longer than 1.0 inning... pitched in 10 consecutive games, from May 18-June 26, without allowing an earned run (19.1IP)...after his option, made nine appearances at OKC, posting an 8.00 ERA (8ER/9IP)...pitched for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League and made six appearances, posting a 4.91 ERA (2ER/3.2IP).

2012 Went 13-7 with a 3.70 ERA (61ER/148.1IP) and 148 strikeouts in 28 combined starts between Triple A Oklahoma City (8g) and Double A Corpus Christi (20g) in 2012...was added to the Astros 40-man roster for the first time in his career on November 20...his 148 strikeouts in 2012 ranked second among Astros minor leaguers...allowed just eight homers in his 148.1 innings last year, good for a mark of 0.54 home runs per nine innings...spent the majority of the season at Double A Corpus Christi, where he went 9-6 with a 3.40 ERA (41ER/108.2IP), two complete games, one shutout and 116 strikeouts...earned Texas League Midseason All- Star honors and was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on June 4 and July 23...led the Texas League in strikeouts per nine innings (9.61) and complete games, and ranked tied for second in the league in opponents batting average (.227) and punchouts (116) in 2012...at the time of his promotion to Triple A OKC on July 26, was leading the league in strikeouts and ranked second in wins...was the Corpus Christi Pitcher of the Month for June...made one start for Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League in 2012...gave up two unearned runs in 0.1 innings...following the season, was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 15 prospect in the Houston system... 2011 Spent the entire season at Class A Advanced Lancaster...led all Astros minor leaguers and ranked sixth in the California League with 152 strikeouts...led the California League with 11.09 strikeouts per nine innings (min. 120 innings)...named the Lancaster Pitcher of the Month for both May and June...ranked as the No. 26 prospect in the Astros system by Baseball America after the year. 2010 Made 26 starts for Class A Lexington, posting an 8-6 record with a 3.65 ERA (54ER/133IP).
