2013

Combined for a 1-4 record, eight saves and a 4.12 ERA in a career-high 54 appearances with Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis in his seventh and final season in the St. Louis Cardinals organization… it was the first time in his career he pitched exclusively in relief…the saves were a career-high as he had just three over his first six professional seasons…all eight saves came at Springfield, which led the team … struck out 75 batters in 67.2 innings, an average of 9.98 per nine innings…walked just 18 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.17…allowed a .228 opponents batting average, including .223 (35-for-157) against right-handed hitters compared to .237 (23-for-97) against left-handers…did not walk a batter to lead off an inning and held the opposition to a .154 batting average in that situation…yielded a .181 batting average with the bases empty, .318 with runners on…including .360 with runners in scoring position … compiled a 2.89 ERA over his first 29 games before his first promotion to Memphis June 24… then logged a 5.64 over his final 25 outings … converted 8-of-13 (61.5%) save opportunities…allowed 3-of-10 (30.0%) inherited runners to score … tossed at least one inning in 47 of his 54 appearances, including two or more 14 times … pitched for Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League following the season and posted a 9.31 ERA in nine relief appearances.

Spent most of the season at Single-A Quad Cities of the Midwest League where he went 5-4 with a save and a 2.83 ERA in 18 games, 11 starts…was transferred to Single-A Palm Beach of the Florida State League July 22 and was 3-3 with a 3.27 ERA in eight starts … combined for an 8-7 record and a 2.99 ERA in 26 games, 19 starts, overall…struck out 127 batters in 111.1 innings, an average of 10.27 per nine innings…yielded just three home runs, including none in 41.1 innings at Palm Beach… had career highs in wins, losses, games started, innings pitched and strikeouts…the strikeouts ranked fourth in the St. Louis farm system…allowed a .233 opponents batting average, including .187 against right-handed hitters compared to .293 against left-handers…opponents hit .220 with runners in scoring position …was 8-4 with a 2.84 ERA in his 11 starts, 0-3 with a 3.57 ERA in his seven relief appearances … his teams were 13-6 (.684) in his starting assignments … allowed one run or fewer in 11 of his 19 starts, including no runs eight times … compiled a 1.50 ERA over his first seven games through May 9 …struck out a season-high nine batters in his final Quad Cities start July 16 against Lake County…had a three-game winning streak from Aug. 3 to 20 (2.35 ERA)…matched his season-high with 7.0 innings and nine strikeouts in his final start Sept. 1 at Fort Myers.

Spent the entire season at Batavia of the Short-Season New York-Penn League…went 1-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 games, including 10 starts … allowed just four home runs in 61.0 innings, an average of 0.59 per nine innings…allowed a .243 opponents average, including .233 against right-handed hitters compared to .257 against left-handers … surrendered all four of his home runs to righties…was 1-4 with a 3.64 ERA in his 10 starts, 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA in five relief appearances … never tossed more than 5.0 innings in an assignment…began the season with a 50-game suspension for a violation of the minor league drug testing program … was reinstated June 2…combined on a three-hit, 7-0 shutout in his first start June 23 against Williamsport (4.0 ip, 2 h, 1 bb, 4 so)…tossed 5.0 innings for his only win in his next start June 29 at Williamsport (4 h, 1 r, 1 bb, 6 so)…then went 0-6 with a 4.67 ERA over his final 13 games…had a 1.10 ERA over a four-game stretch from Aug. 4 to 22 but did not have any decisions over that span.
