Rafael Martin...Grew up in Riverside, Calif. and is a graduate of Jurupa Valley (CA) High...Worked in construction/contracting industry for four years prior to signing first pro contract.

Enjoyed two stints with Washington in 2015...Struck out five consecutive Boston Red Sox batters in 2.0 scoreless innings in his MLB debut, April 15... Per the Elias Sports Bureau, was the first reliever to fan five consecutive batters in his debut since LAD's Pete Richert (4/12/62)...Offered scoreless relief in 10 of his 13 MLB appearances...Struck out 19 against four walks and four hits in those 10 games (9.1 IP)...Returned to Washington when rosters expanded in September...Led Washington's Minor League system with 12 saves...Went 5-5 with a 3.21 ERA (20 ER/56.0 IP) in 46 games for Triple-A Syracuse.

2011 Went a combined 5-1 with a 1.65 ERA in 38 games with Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg...didn't pitch until May 18 with Potomac due to right shoulder soreness...posted first domestic save in Harrisburg's 3-2 win on June 16 at Trenton...posted a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 Arizona Fall League innings spanning 10 appearances with Scottsdale. 2010 Pitching for Harrisburg in domestic debut, posted a 3.61 ERA and fanned 7.8 Eastern League batters per 9.0 innings in 47 appearances...suffered just 2 blown saves...posted a 2.52 ERA through the All-Star break, 6.75 thereafter. 2009 Went 6-3 with a 4.12 ERA in career-high 54 appearances out of the bullpen with Saltillo in breakout season...struck out 9.2 per 9.0 innings en route to recording a strong 2.6/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio...pitched 10.0 more innings than season prior, but walked 5 fewer batters...in 47 appearances from April 12 through season's end, posted a 2.91 ERA for Saltillo...posted batting average of .208 when facing Mexican Summer League right-handed batters...in Mexican Winter League, finished 4-0 with one save and a 2.29 ERA in 29 appearances with the Mazatlan Deer...in 2 appearances, struck out 4 in 2.1 scoreless innings as member of Mexico's Caribbean Series club...including Caribbean Series appearances, batting average against for the winter was .171 (22-for-129). 2008 Posted 6 wins in just 35 bullpen appearances in sophomore season with Saltillo...was touched for just 3 home runs in 53.2 innings (one every 18.0 innings)...posted a .205 batting average against en route to 3.25 ERA in 27 appearances with Mazatlan of the Mexican Winter League. 2007 Signed prior to season out of a tryout camp, posted a .203 batting average against in professional debut with Saltillo... pro debut came via 0.2 scoreless innings, May 10 vs. Laguna...pocketed first professional win, June 5 at Yucatan.
