Royals avoid arbitration with five players

The Royals came to agreement with five of their seven arbitration-eligible players, signing right-hander Louis Coleman, left-hander Danny Duffy, outfielder Jarrod Dyson, and catchers Tony Cruz and Drew Butera to one-year deals on Friday.

Jarrod got off to a fast start and had a hot month of August, but struggled down the stretch...He finished the year hitting .269 with 4 doubles, 4 triples and a career-high 36 stolen bases...His 36 steals tied for third in the American League with Detroit's Rajai Davis...His total was the most by a Royals player since Carlos Beltran swiped 41 bags during the 2003 season...Led the Majors with 22 stolen bases from the seventh inning on; it was the highest total since 2009, when Carl Crawford also had 22 steals after the sixth...The total also ranks second in Royals history to Willie Wilson (24 in 1978)...Enters 2015 tied with U.L.
