Jay Phillip Buente...graduated from Reitz High School (IN) before attending Purdue University. 2011 Spent one day with the Rays and made one appearance, July 26 at OAK...pitched 2 innings in relief of David Price, who went 6 innings...earned no decision in a 6-1 loss, totaling 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R/ER, 2 BB, 1 SO...was optioned back to Triple-A Durham after the game...On May 25 was claimed by the Rays off waivers from the Marlins and was optioned to Durham...the Rays released him on Sep 14...Appeared in 24 games (4 starts) for Durham...prior to joining the Rays, he pitched in 10 games (5 starts) for Triple-A New Orleans and pitched in one game for the Marlins...Combining his two stops in Triple-A went 4-3 with a 3.84 ERA (84.1-IP, 36-ER) with 87 SO and 27 BB in 34 games (9 starts)...went 1-0 with 1 save and a 2.94 ERA (33.2-IP, 11-ER) in 25 relief apps, and 3-3 with a 4.44 ERA (50.2-IP, 25-ER) in 9 starts...His lone appearance for the Marlins came on May 22 vs. TB, his first career major league start...lasted 3 innings (5-H, 3-R, 3-ER, 3-BB, 1-SO) and suffered a 4-0 loss to James Shields, who threw a complete-game 3-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 13 batters. 2009 In his fourth professional season, split time between double-A Jacksonville and triple-A New Orleans, posting an overall record of 5-2 with a 3.14 ERA (83.0 IP/29 ER).
