Graduated from PK Yonge High School in Gainesville, FL, where as a junior he hit .359 with 48 stolen bases in leading his team to the state regional quarterfinals...that season was named Florida 2A second-team All-State...as a senior hit .488 with 42 steals and was named Florida 3A first-team All-State...prior to the 2006 draft was rated the fastest high school baserunner...at Perfect Game USA Camp ran the 60-yard dash in a record 6.19 seconds...declined a scholarship offer to play cornerback at the University of Florida. 2012 In his first season at Class AAA made 116 apps for KC's Omaha affiliate...made 104 apps in LF and 5 apps in CF...following the season became a free agent and on 12/20 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract with an invitation to 2013 Major League spring training camp. 2011 Derrick spent his second consecutive season with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. ... For the fourth season in a row, he led his league in stolen bases, swiping 55 in 70 attempts for the Naturals. ...
