Michel Abreu graduated from Escuela de Iniciacion Deportivo in Matanzas, Cuba in 1996 where he played baseball...Attended Universida de Matanzas in Cuba for two years...Enjoys movies, dancing, salsa concerts and reggaeton concerts. 2006 Was the co-recipient of the Sterling Award with teammate Carlos Gomez, emblematic of the top player on his Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League team...Led the Eastern League in hitting and on-base percentage and ranked third in slugging percentage...Named to the mid-season and post-season EL All-Star teams...Hit over .300 the first five months of the season: April (3-8, .375); May (37-115, .322); June (32-91, .352); July (31-85, .365); and August (27-90, .300)...In addition, he hit .340 (32-94) with men in scoring position; .364 (16-44) with runners in scoring position and two outs and .316 (59-187) with runners on base...Compiled a .316 (31-98) batting average vs. left-handed pitching and .337 (101-300) vs. right-handed pitching...For the year, he had 33 multiple-hit games: 21 two-hit games; 11 contests with three hits; and one game with four hits (4-4), June 22nd vs. Akron...Had two home runs and three RBI vs. Reading on June 29th...Also had two home runs and knocked in four runs vs. Portland in the first game of a July 23rd doubleheader...Started the year with Binghamton with a season-high, eight-game hitting streak...Hit .455 (15-33)...Before joining Binghamton, he played two games with St.Lucie (A) of the Florida State League...Played for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League last winter...Had an eight-game hitting streak and drove in at least one run in his final seven games...He finished with a .280 batting average with six home runs and 25 RBI.
