Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers has been diagnosed with torn articular cartilage in his left knee and is returning to Texas to have surgery. The initial diagnosis is he will be out until after the All-Star break.
The Rangers avoided an arbitration hearing with infielder Jurickson Profar by agreeing to a one-year contract on Thursday, and the club did the same with catcher Robinson Chirinos and pitcher Tanner Scheppers on Friday.
