Scott Michael Barnes Bio Info

Scott Michael Barnes. Was a three-year starter for the St. John's Red Storm… Earned All Big East honours (2007-08), All-Northeast 2nd team Region honors and was a NCAA Houston Regional All-Tournament selection in 2008… In three seasons at STJU ranks third all-time with 263 strikeouts. Graduated from Cathedral HS (MA) where he was a two-time All-WMass League selection...Was named the Republican's Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year as a senior at Cathedral after going 9-0 with a 0.13 ERA and 120 strikeouts.

2014

Spent all of 2014 with Columbus (AAA) of the International League in the Indians system, however season ended in June with a lat strain. Posted a 3.69 ERA, his best since 2011, while holding opponents to a .193 average. Allowed runs in just two of his final 11 outings. Marked his 4th straight season having spent time in Columbus. Was traded to Baltimore this off-season, then claimed by Texas before being claimed by Toronto, 15 days later.

2013

Spent most of the season at Triple-A Columbus and was with the big league club over three stints over the first two months of the season...Was with Cleveland on April 28 (26th man in DH), May 5-8 and May 23-31...Around those stints was with the Columbus Clippers all season and did not pitch after July 2nd due to a sprained left wrist...Never enjoyed a consistent amount of success at any level and allowed runs in 12 of his 23 outings at Columbus, including 5 multi-runs allowed appearances, two of which where he allowed 5 earned runs....Lefties hit .263 (10-38) off him at Triple-A as batters hit .327 (16-49) off him with runners on base and .367 (11--30) with RISP. ?ring his three stints with Cleveland he recorded his first career save in a career-long outing of 3.0 innings in a 12-3 at Boston (3.0IP, 2H, 0R, 4K), which also equaled his career single-game best of 4 strikeouts...In his final outing with Cleveland on May 31 vs. Tampa Bay he allowed 5 runs (5ER) in 1.0 inning of work as he suffered his first career loss. ?ffered a left wrist injury after his outing of July 2nd at Durham and was placed on the minor league DL the following day....Made 1 rehab appearance for the Arizona League Indians on August 17th before being shutdown for the season...Was recalled to Cleveland on August 30th and placed on the 60-day Major League DL when Jason Kubel wa s acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks...Left-handed hitters were just 3-for-15 (.200, all HR) off him with Cleveland.

2012 Spent most of the season at Triple-A Columbus where he went 2-3 with 2 saves and a 3.98 ERA in 31 games/3 starts (52.0IP, 37H, 23ER, 23BB, 67K, .196AVG)...As a reliever for the Clippers he posted an ERA of 3.50 (36.0IP, 25H, 14ER, 16BB, 50K, .188AVG) and limited right-handed hitters to a .156 (19-122) average against for the campaign... Made 3 starts to open the season in April after knee surgery the previous season, going 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA (16.0IP, 12H, 9R/ER, 7BB, 17K) and was converted to the bullpen...Combined ERA in May/June/July at Columbus was 2.35 in 18 outings (23.0IP, 15H, 6ER, 30K). Made four stints with Cleveland after last call-up on September 1 when rosters expanded (others May 30-June 14, June 25-27, July 8-19)...Tossed 4.0 scoreless IP over 3 relief app's to start his MLB career w/ CLE after May 30 recall (Hafner DL), but then allowed all 9 runs over a 4-game span June 14-July 19 (6.0IP, 12H, 0ER)...Made MLB debut May 30th vs. KC (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R). Shined in Sept/Oct, going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 9 games (9.0IP, 5H, 0R, 0BB, 6K, .167AVG)...Did not allow a baserunner over his last 5 outings and retired his last 14 batters he faced on the season...Lefties were 6-for-30 off him (.200) with a .614 OPS...Allowed 2 HR in 71.0 combined innings in 2012 between AAA and Cleveland. 2011 Spent most of the season at AAA Columbus before injuring his left knee on July 10, ending his season... Named the 9th best prospect in the Indians organization entering 2012 according to Baseball America...Started the season at AA Akron, posting a 1.64 ERA in 2 starts (11.0IP, 5H, 2ER, 2BB, 17K) before being promoted to Columbus on April 15...In second start of April 14 at Reading allowed 2 hits with 10 strikeouts (0BB) in 7.0 shutout innings prior to promotion...Combined in April between Columbus and Akron he went 2-1 w/a 2.01 ERA in 4 starts (22.1IP, 11H, 5ER, 27SO)...Won 6 straight decisions for Columbus from April 27 thru June 20 and went 4-1 w/a 1.66 ERA in 6 June starts (38.0IP, 26H, 7ER, 39SO)...Fanned 9 batters in consecutive starts less than 6.0IP on May 20 and June 4... Went 5-3 with a 2.58 ERA (59.1 IP, 49 H, 63 K) over his last 10 starts with the Clippers from May 24-July 10...At the time of the injury he was 4th in the International League in strikeouts (90), 7th in BA against (.240), 10th in wins (7) and 17th in ERA (1.30)...Season ended in the 6th inning fielding a bunt on July 10 at Toledo, tearing the ACL in his left knee that eventually required season-ending surgery...Combined on the year he went 8-4 w/a 3.45 ERA in 18 games (99.0IP, 85H, 38ER, 107SO), fanning 9.7 batters per 9.0IP...Combined on the year batters hit .230 (85-370) off him, including a mark of .212 (53-250) by right-handed hitters. 2010 Spent the season at AA Akron and finished 3rd among Indians minor leaguers in strikeouts (127) and 4th among Eastern League starters in strikeouts per 9.0IP (8.28)...Had some dominate outings on the season despite his 5.22 ERA, 4/14 at Trenton (5.0IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 3K), 5/18 at Altoona (5.1IP, 0H, 0R), 6/9 vs. New Hampshire (7.0IP, 2H, 0R, 10K) and 8/6 at New Britain (7.0IP, 2H, 0R, 8K)...On the year Eastern League hitters hit .241 (126-522)...Pitched in the Arizona Fall League after the season (4-1, 3.65ERA, 24.2IP, 23H, 10ER, 28K). 2009 Split season between A San Jose, A Kinston and AA Akron after going acquired on 7/27 from the Giants...Entered the season as the 9th best prospect in the SF system according to Baseball America...At the time of the trade was having a dominant season for San Jose in the California League...Was leading the California League in wins, was 2nd in ERA (2.85) and his 99 strikeouts T9th...Won his last 7 decisions since 6/11, having gone 7-0 w/a 1.50 ERA over his last 8 starts (48.0IP, 36H, 8ER, 58SO). 2008 Was the 237th player selected in the 2008 draft.
