Full name is Justin Michael Marks...Graduated from Owensboro (Ky.) High in 2006...Selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 37th round of the 2006 June Free Agent Draft, but did not sign...Attended the University of Louisville, where he was named Big East Freshman of the Year in 2007 and a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and PING! after going 9-2 with a 2.67 ERA...limited opponents to a conference-best .189 batting average...was a first-team All-Big East selection as a sophomore in 2008 (9-2, 2.37 ERA) and then 2009 Big East Pitcher of the Year...Finished his three-year career as Louisville's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts and ERA.

Justin opened the season with Northwest Arkansas (AA), but was quickly promoted to Omaha (AAA), where hemade 24 appearances (20 starts) for the Storm Chasers... Finished the season strong, going 5-4 with a 2.77 ERA over his final 13 games (nine starts)...held opponents to a.226 batting average after the All-Star break...tied for eighth in the Pacific Coast League with 117 strikeouts... Tossed 5.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn a win vs. Memphis on August 18...earned PCL Pitcher of the Weekhonors August 19... Made a pair of postseason starts, taking the loss in Game Three of the PCL Championship series.
2012 Justin pitched a majority of the 2012 campaign with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, making 17 starts...also threw two games (one start) in a rehab stint with Surprise and made one late-regular season start with Omaha (AAA) and then one more in the Pacific Coast League playoffs...Following the campaign, went 5-0 with a 2.59 ERA in 7 starts for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League... led the league with five wins and held left-handed batters to a .160 mark...named one of two starters on the AFL Top Prospects Team. 2011 Made 28 appearances (22 starts) for Wilmington in 2011, his first season in the Royals chain, and led the Carolina League with 140 strikeouts while finishing third in the circuit with 144.2 innings pitched.
