Matthew Hagerty McBride was originally signed by Cleveland scout Brent Urcheck…drafted as a supplemental pick following the second round as compensation for the loss of free agent Scott Elarton…graduated Liberty High School in Bethlehem (PA)…attended Lehigh University where he combined to hit .350 with 56 doubles, 17 home runs and 125 RBI in 149 games, all starting as catcher, over three seasons…hit .417 as senior to lead Lehigh their first-ever Patriot League Tournament Title and first NCAA Tournament berth…earned First-Team All-League honors as a sophomore in 2005.

2016

Batted .209 with three doubles and two RBI in 20 games over four stints with the A's…hit .269 (7-for- 26) with all three of his doubles and both of his RBI against left-handed pitching compared to .118 (2-for-17) against right-handers…his career splits are .241 (20-for-83) against left-handers, .171 (19- for-111) against righties…was 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position…batted .250 at night, .133 during the day…hit .172 off a pitcher the first time he saw him in a game, .286 after that…started 11 games at first base and one at designated hitter…appeared in 16 games overall behind the plate and one each at first base and in right field…did not commit an error but opponents were successful in all eight of their stolen base attempts off him…did not play during his first stint with the A's as he was selected from Triple-A Nashville April 27 and optioned back two days later…returned for a second time May 13 and went 4-for-18 (.222) in eight games before he was optioned to the Sounds May 27…made his A's debut May 14 at Tampa Bay and went 1-for-3 in a start at catcher…it was his Major League debut behind the plate…matched his career high with two hits May 17 against Texas…batted .238 (5-for-21) during his third stint from July 3 to 25…hit safely in consecutive games for the only time July 23-25 (3- for-6, .500)…had another two hit game July 25 at Texas and that would be his final start of the season… returned for the final time Sept. 2 when roster expanded and spent the remainder of the season with Oakland…appeared in just five games and went 0-for-4.

2013

Spent the entire season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, though he played in just 48 games due to injury...did not play after June 19th after sustaining a neck injury...Was one of the Pacific Coast League's most productive hitters prior to the injury, as he hit .328 (59-for-180) with 17 doubles, 15 home runs, 45 RBI and a 1.042 OPS (.359 OBP, .683 SLG)...Despite missing two and a half months, 2013 marked his fourth career Minor League season with at least 15 home runs...Saw the majority of his playing time as the club's catcher (28 games), but also played three games at first base, six in left field and was the DH 10 times.

2012

Made his Major League debut in 2012 with Colorado after playing 653 career Minor League games since he was drafted by Cleveland in the first supplemental round (75th overall) of the 2006 draft (Lehigh (PA) University)...made his MLB debut on 8/4 vs. SF and went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored...was with Colorado for 12 days in his first stint with club from 8/4-16...was then recalled on 9/5 for the remainder of the season...spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, his first full season at the Triple-A level...hit .353 (151-for-439) with 42 doubles, 6 triples, 10 home runs and 87 RBI in 108 games for the Sky Sox...McBride led the Sky Sox in batting average and doubles...his 42 doubles were one shy of tying the Rockies Triple-A record for doubles set by Garrett Atkins (2004), Dave Hajek (1999) and Jim Taum (1994)...named to the All-PCL team as well as the PCL Mid-Season All-Star team...connected on his first career Major League home run on 9/16/12 at SD off Andrew Werner...first MLB hit came in 2nd MLB at bat, a single off Giants LHP Madison Bumgarner...hit .333 (8-for-24) in his limited time in the Majors...hit .375 (54-for-144) with runners in scoring position for the Sky Sox...also hit .308 (4-for-13) with 2 RBI as a pinch-hitter for the Rox...was acquired by Colorado along with pitchers Drew Pomeranz, Alex White and Joe Gardner in exchange for Ubaldo Jimenez on 7/31/11.
