The Reds recalled right-handed pitcher Jumbo Diaz from Triple-A Louisville on Monday to take the roster spot left open when JC Ramirez was claimed off waivers by the Angels.

Reds demote three from struggling bullpen

The Reds bullpen has been the club's weakest link so far during what has been a rough season. Following Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Mariners, more changes were made. Jumbo Diaz and Keyvius Sampson were optioned to Triple-A Louisville, and Steve Delabar was designated for assignment.

In his second Major League season made 61 apps during 2 stints with the Reds (Opening Day-6/6, 7/17-remainder of the season)...in 36 apps after he was promoted from Louisville following the All-Star break posted a 2.65era...in the 9-8 win on 9/15 at SF threw a scoreless 10th inning for his only Major League save...earned his first Major League victory in the 5-2 Opening Day win vs Pit and his second in the 4-3 win vs SF on 5/14...from 7/27-8/21 produced career-high 12.1-inning scoreless streak, a stretch that also included a career-best 11 consecutive scoreless apps (7/27-8/19)...on 8/5 vs StL recorded a career-high 5 strikeouts, tied with Aroldis Chapman for the most by a Reds reliever in a game all season...retired 44-61 first batters faced, stranded 12-16 inherited runners and converted 1-5 save opps...was on the Reds' Opening Day roster and posted a 6.65era in 25 relief apps before he was optioned to Louisville on 6/7, when RHP Nate Adcock was promoted...in 13 apps for the Bats posted a 1.13era and converted 8-9 save opps...prior to his second-half promotion didn't allow a run in his last 12 apps for Louisville (15ip)...following the season pitched for Este in the Dominican Winter League (10g, 2-0-2, 2.53, 10.2ip, 9h, 2bb, 14k).

2005 Upon recovering from Tommy John surgery, appeared in 14 games for Single-A Vero Beach and did not allow an earned run in 15.2 innings...fanned 18 batters and walked 12 ... Allowed three unearned runs and took the loss, his only decision on Aug. 14 ... Made two appearances, including one rehab start for the Gulf Coast Dodgers. 2004 Led Dodger minor leaguers with a combined 20 saves for Single-A Columbus (14) and Single-A Vero Beach (6), despite missing the final six weeks with a right elbow sprain ... Between the two teams, posted a 2.00 ERA, limited opponents to a .172 batting average (28-for-163) and compiled 74 strikeouts in 47.0 innings, an average of 14.8 strikeouts per nine innings, which ranked third among all minor leaguers ... Recognized by Baseball America as being the best reliever and as having the best fastball in the South Atlantic League ... Selected to pitch in the SAL All-Star Game ... Did not allow an earned run over 17 outings for Columbus from April 18-May 29, a span of 20.1 innings...collected 11 saves during that stretch ... Picked up saves in first four appearances upon joining Vero Beach on June 19, hurling 6.0 shutout innings. 2003 Appeared in just seven games for Single-A South Georgia. 2002 Pitched for three different affliates, combining for a 5-3 record and 2.82 ERA in 16 games, covering 60.2 innings ... Started season with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers and was 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 10 games, limiting opponents to a .174 batting average ... Ranked by Baseball America as the fifth-best prospect in the GCL...allowed no earned runs in first 18.2 innings. 2001 Led Dodger short-season minor leaguers in wins (8) and games (28).
