Originally signed with the Mariners as a free agent on Aug 3, 2000...the Dominican Republic native is permanently blind in his right eye...in February 2006, he was dining at a restaurant in Bonao, D.R., when a drunken man accidentally hit him with a shotgun blast that left three pellets lodged in his right eye...he underwent two surgeries and was able to save the eye, though the tear duct is dried and the eye has no vision...has pitched six seasons since the injury

Received a non-roster invitation to Rays spring training and split the season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham…compiled a 3.24 ERA (58.1-IP, 21-ER) with 19 saves in 46 apps for the Biscuits before a promotion to Durham…with the Bulls, amassed a 3.13 ERA (23-IP, 8-ER) in 12 apps (2 starts)…earned a save in the Bulls 2-1 win at Indianapolis to cap a series sweep in the first round of the International League playoffs.
