Kyler R. Newby...graduated from Bonanza High School in 2003...attended Mesa (AZ) Community College...was drafted by Arizona in the 50th round of the 2004 draft but did not sign until June 1, 2005. 2012 Began the season at Triple-A Norfolk where he made one appearance, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning of relief for the save...spent the balance of the season at Double-A Bowie, where he was 5-4 with 19 saves and a 2.44 ERA in 42 relief appearances...ranked third in the Eastern League in saves...converted 20 of 21 save opportunities overall (95.2%)...the 20 saves were a career high and the most in the Baltimore farm system...topped the BaySox in appearances and saves...combined at both stops for a 2.40 ERA... surrendered just one home run in 56.1 innings...struck out 74 for an average of 11.82 per nine innings... walked 22 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.36...held the opposition to a .192 batting average, which included a .179 (24-for-134) mark by right-handed hitters compared to .217 (15-for-69) by left-handers... issued 17 of his 22 walks to righties...allowed a .160 batting average and two walks (.192 on-base percentage) to batters leading off an inning...also surrendered his win July 3 against Montgomery...was credited with his lone save of the season July 31 against Chattanooga when he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings...picked up the win in consecutive appearance at Montgomery Aug. 6 and 9, extending his winning streak to six games...the streak was snapped Aug. 22 at Jacksonville when he was charged with the blown save and loss...return to Reno Sept. 1 and made one regular season appearance, a loss Sept. 3 against Tucson when he allowed two runs in 3.1 innings...also made two postseason appearances for the Aces (3.0 ip, 5 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 4 so)... pitched for Ponce and Carolina in the Puerto Rican Winter League following the season...combined for a 1-1 record and a 4.15 ERA in five starts. 2010 Spent the season with Double-A Mobile for the second consecutive year...was 4-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 31 games, including 11 starts...struck out a career-high and team-leading 104 batters in 88.2 innings (10.56 per nine innings)...was 3-2 with a 3.17 ERA and .208 opponents batting average in his 11 starts, 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA and .252 opponents average in 20 relief appearances...held the opposition to a .226 batting average, including .216 by right-handed hitters compared to .235 by left-handers... surrendered eight of his 11 home runs to lefties...also allowed eight home runs at home...yielded two grand slams...opponents batted .154 with runners in scoring position, including .108 with RISP and two outs...allowed 4 of 9 (44.4%) inherited runners to score...began the year pitching mostly out of the bullpen as 20 of his first 21 appearances were in relief...had a stint on the disabled list from June 22 to 29 with a sprained left ankle...tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in a start July 17 against Mississippi and each of his final 10 outings were starts...was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 26-Aug. 2...did not allow a run and struck out 14 in two starts that week, including 5.0 scoreless innings in a win over Montgomery July 30 and 5.0 scoreless innings in a no decision at Mississippi Aug. 4... finished July with a 1.56 ERA in six games, including three starts...then compiled a 1.82 ERA and .146 opponents batting average in five starts in August...struck out a season-high 10 batters in 6.0 innings Aug. 9 against Jacksonville...matched the strikeout high in his final start of the regular season Sept. 6 at Huntsville...made one postseason start for the BayBears and was the losing pitcher in Game 4 of the SL Division Series (4.0 ip, 4 h, 3 r, 3 er, 5 so)...pitched for Ponce in the
