Mayberry, Tigers agree to Minor League deal

Outfielder John Mayberry Jr., who played parts of six years with the Phillies before spending part of last season with the Mets, agreed to terms with the Tigers on a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training, a source with knowledge of the deal told MLB.com.

John Claiborn Mayberry Jr... 2002 graduate of Rockhurst High School (KS)... 2006 graduate of Stanford University (CA) with a degree in political science... Completed his degree in 2006 after being drafted in 2005... Played baseball at Stanford where he finished with a .312 AVG, 28 HR, 35 doubles and 148 RBI over three years (2003-05)...Was a 2-time All-Pac-10 selection and a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2003... Rated as the best college athlete among Baseball America's top 200 prospects, also the 3rd-best power hitter in that group... Played for the USA Baseball National Team in 2004 and helped Team USA to a gold medal in the FISU World University Games in Tainan, Taiwan (.254, 15-59, 2 HR, 9 RBI)... Signed by: Tim Fortugno.
