Graduated from Mayfair (CA) High School...Was a 4-year varsity letter winner and All-CIF honoree...Earned team MVP honors as a freshman and won the Suburban League championship as a senior in 2002, finishing that season with a .471 average...Selected by the Braves in the 29th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign...Attended the University of California-Irvine...Hit .355 (78-for-220) as a junior in 2005, earning All-Big West Conference second-team honors and was named his team's MVP...Also threw out 34 base runners from behind the plate to lead the Big West...Participated in the Red Sox Rookie Program in 2009. 2010 Limited to 36 games with Triple-A Pawtucket due to 2 trips to the disabled list. Threw out 6 of 31 (19.4 percent) of attempted base stealers with the PawSox...Committed only 1 error in 246 total chances and posted a .996 fielding percentage...Did not allow any passed balls. Placed on the disabled list on 4/30 with a broken hamate bone in his left hand...Made a rehab stint with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox before he was activated to Pawtucket's roster on 7/6. Appeared in 11 games with the PawSox, all behind the plate, before landing back on the DL on 8/2 (retro to 7/31) with recurring left wrist trouble...Played in 1 rehab game for Short-A Lowell before re-joining Pawtucket on 8/19.
